Our client is a well-established and purpose led industry superannuation fund with a strong commitment for delivering long‑term outcomes for its members.
As the fund continues to grow and evolve its investment capability, an outstanding newly created opportunity has arisen for an experienced investment professional to join the organisation as Head of Public Markets , reporting directly to the Chief Investment Officer.
This is a senior leadership role with broad responsibility for the oversight and management of the Fund's public markets portfolio, investment strategy, manager relationships and governance activities. The successful candidate will also lead a small investment team and play a key role in shaping the Fund's future investment direction.
The Role
Working closely with the CIO, Executive Leadership Team and Investment Committee, you will be responsible for driving investment outcomes across listed market exposures while ensuring portfolios remain aligned with the Fund's strategic objectives, risk framework and member‑first investment philosophy.
Key responsibilities include:
- Contributing to the development of the Fund's investment strategy and portfolio construction framework.
- Providing leadership on strategic and dynamic asset allocation decisions across public market asset classes.
- Identifying emerging investment opportunities, macroeconomic trends and portfolio risks.
- Supporting the ongoing evolution of investment beliefs and implementation approaches.
- Delivering market insights and recommendations to senior stakeholders.
- Leading the assessment, selection and appointment of external investment managers.
- Conducting rigorous due diligence across investment capabilities, processes and organisational strength.
- Monitoring manager performance and ensuring mandates continue to meet portfolio objectives.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with key investment partners and service providers.
- Recommending manager changes and portfolio enhancements where appropriate.
Investment Strategy & Asset Allocation
- Contributing to the development of the Fund's investment strategy and portfolio construction framework.

Manager Selection & Portfolio Oversight
- Leading the assessment, selection and appointment of external investment managers.
- Conducting rigorous due diligence across investment capabilities, processes and organisational strength.
- Monitoring manager performance and ensuring mandates continue to meet portfolio objectives.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with key investment partners and service providers.
- Recommending manager changes and portfolio enhancements where appropriate.
Investment Governance & Reporting
- Ensuring robust governance and risk management practices are maintained across public market portfolios.
- Preparing investment recommendations and reporting for the CIO, Investment Committee and Board.
- Monitoring compliance with investment policies, regulatory requirements and fiduciary obligations.
- Providing clear analysis of performance, risk and market developments to internal stakeholders.
- Contributing to policy development and continuous improvement initiatives across the investment function.
Leadership & Team Development
- Leading and developing a small team of investment professionals.
- Creating a collaborative, high‑performance and member‑focused culture.
- Coaching team members and supporting capability development.
- Fostering strong relationships across the broader investment and organisational teams.
Candidate Profile
We are seeking a seasoned investment leader with a successful track record in institutional investment management, superannuation, asset consulting, sovereign wealth or a related environment.
The successful candidate will bring:
- Deep expertise across public markets, including equities, fixed income and broader liquid market strategies.
- Demonstrated experience in asset allocation, portfolio construction and manager selection.
- Strong investment judgement and a well‑developed understanding of market dynamics.
- Experience operating within sophisticated governance and investment decision‑making frameworks.
- Proven ability to engage effectively with Boards, Investment Committees and executive stakeholders.
- Robust people leadership skills and experience developing investment talent.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in finance, economics, commerce or a related discipline.
- CFA or other postgraduate investment qualifications will be highly regarded.
