The Roles

We have two Drill and Blast Engineer positions open with Tier 1 open cut coal clients, one in the Hunter Valley in NSW and one in the Bowen Basin in Queensland.
The NSW role runs a 9 day fortnight, residential in the Hunter Valley, DIDO from Sydney OR FIFO Melbourne, Brisbane.
The Queensland role runs an 8/6 roster, FIFO from Brisbane (Sydney and Melbourne also possible) or DIDO from Mackay and the surrounding towns.

Reporting to the Technical Services Manager and working alongside the mine planning and production teams, you take ownership of drill and blast design and execution across the operation. You design production and pre strip patterns, mark up and issue designs, supervise loading and firing, and complete post blast analysis covering fragmentation, floor conditions and coal loss and dilution.

You work directly with the drill and blast operational teams on product selection, initiation design and blasting performance,



and are comfortable with through seam and on seam blasting. Blast exclusion zones, vibration and overpressure monitoring against licence conditions, and reporting on cost and productivity against budget all sit with you. Both operations run high volume truck and shovel, and the Queensland site adds dragline pre strip, and large scale blasts.

All flights, travel time and accommodation are covered.

To be considered you must meet the following criteria:

- A tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a relevant experience.

- Previous practical experience in open cut coal in Australia and an established understanding of mining operations and processes/software.

- Demonstrated drill and blast design experience in open cut mines.

- Working knowledge of NSW or Queensland explosives legislation, licence conditions and blast monitoring requirements.

- Experience managing drill and blast contractors and explosives suppliers.

- Practical experience with blast design software (Vulcan, Blastlogic, Shotplus etc.)

- Located in the Hunter Valley, Sydney, Brisbane or the Bowen Basin, or willing to relocate or travel.

- Current Coal Board Medical or the ability to obtain one.

- Current Australian drivers licence and full working rights in Australia.

- Exceptional and professional communication skills to engage and influence production crews and contractors.
