The Commercial Director is responsible for leading the delivery of commercial strategy and outcomes across a defined portfolio within the GIICA program. This role ensures that procurement, contracting and commercial management activities drive value for money, manage risk effectively, and support successful delivery of complex infrastructure and venue projects.
Reporting to the EGM Commercial, the Commercial Director provides senior leadership across their portfolio, translating enterprise commercial strategy into effective, fit-for-purpose delivery. The role operates at the interface between commercial, delivery and external partners, ensuring alignment between contractual frameworks, program objectives and government expectations.
The Commercial Director plays a critical role in managing high-value contracts, resolving complex commercial issues, and maintaining strong governance, performance and stakeholder outcomes.
This is up to a 6-year maximum term role.
About your responsibilities
- Translate enterprise commercial strategy into effective delivery across the assigned portfolio
- Lead contracting, commercial management and contract administration activities to achieve value for money outcomes
- Oversee complex negotiations, variations, claims and dispute resolution
- Ensure contracts are structured and managed to support delivery objectives and minimise risk
- Identify, assess and actively manage commercial risks across the portfolio
- Critically review and validate financial data, forecasts and commercial terms to ensure accuracy, integrity and sound decision-making
- Lead the commercial interrogation of cost, pricing, financial assumptions and value drivers within contracts, collaborating with the legal team to ensure alignment of financial outcomes with contractual terms
- Ensure compliance with commercial frameworks, policies,
governance requirements and audit expectations
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with delivery teams, contractors, partners and stakeholders
- Drive alignment between commercial and delivery functions to support integrated program outcomes
About you
- Strong contract administration skills
- Extensive experience in senior commercial roles within large-scale infrastructure, construction or program environments
- Demonstrated capability managing high-value and complex contracts across diverse delivery models
- Demonstrated experience leading the commercial evaluation of contracts, including detailed interrogation of cost structures, pricing assumptions and financial models.
- Proven ability to critically analyse financial information and interrogate commercial terms to support robust decision-making
- Strong negotiation skills with proven experience in managing claims and resolving disputes
- Well-developed commercial judgement with a focus on value for money, risk management and performance
- Ability to translate strategy into practical, delivery-focused commercial outcomes
- Experience operating within structured governance environments, ideally within the public sector or equivalent
- Proven leadership capability with experience building, leading and developing high-performing teams
- Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and engage at senior levels
- Collaborative and delivery-focused approach, working effectively across organisational and contractual boundaries
- Ability to operate in complex,
fast-paced environments with a high degree of accountability and autonomy
