About Wait Mate

Wait Mate is a national not for profit movement of people who believe childhood should be shaped by people, experiences and real world connection before smartphones. By connecting parents and building safe, supportive communities, Wait Mate empowers parents and caregivers to wait as long as possible before giving their kids a smartphone, helping change what's considered normal.

Wait Mate SA is backed by the Departments for Education and will officially launch statewide in Term 3, 2026, delivered through clustered school partnerships across metropolitan, regional and remote South Australia.

The role

This is a hands-on, on the ground role. Through the pilot you'll work across five school partnerships, from promotion through to delivery on the night, turning what works into a repeatable event and building a marketing playbook that schools can run largely on their own. From statewide rollout, you'll onboard recent partnerships using that playbook, support presenter led event delivery, and own data capture from confirmed booking through to the termly government report.

You'll pick up broader coordination tasks as the program scales from pilot into the primary rollout,

and later the high school rollout from Term 3 2027.

What you'll do

- Build relationships with host and partner schools and tailor promotion to each school's context
- Act as the on the ground event contact once a booking is confirmed, and support school organisers with a promotional toolkit
- Manage day to day event logistics alongside the Program team
- Monitor RSVPs and step in with reminder sequences where registrations lag
- Build and maintain the event and marketing playbook, your central deliverable through the pilot
- Own data capture for every session, recording RSVPs, attendance and session details within 48 hours
- Flag risks and issues early and feed learnings back into the playbook as the program scales

Who we're looking for

The ideal candidate will have:

- A background in events, marketing, communications, community engagement or program coordination, ideally with both an on the ground delivery element and a promotion or engagement element
- Confidence with CRM systems, spreadsheets and basic reporting
- Confidence with email and SMS platforms and basic analytics
- Experience in or comfort with the education sector is a plus, as are local media, PR and community engagement skills
- A genuine belief in the Wait Mate mission
- An ability to stay calm under pressure
- A willingness to work in a small, close-knit team
- Confidence building relationships with principals, school staff, presenters and community contacts

A position description is attached.

We are reviewing applications on a rolling basis so we encourage you to apply sooner rather than later.
