Lead a skilled team delivering essential Civil Works across our District

The District Council of Yankalilla is seeking an experienced and motivated Supervisor Civil Works to lead our Civil Works team and play a key role in delivering safe, efficient and high-quality road and infrastructure services across the district.

This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone who combines robust practical civil works experience with the ability to lead people, coordinate resources and manage competing priorities.

About the Role

As the Supervisor Civil Works, you will be responsible for the day-to-day leadership and coordination of the Civil Works team and the effective delivery of Council's civil works programs.

You will oversee road construction, road maintenance and other civil works, ensuring programs are delivered safely, efficiently, within budget and in accordance with Council policies, standards and priorities.

Working closely with the Operational Works Manager, you will coordinate staff, plant, equipment and contractors to ensure resources are effectively utilised and works are delivered to a high standard.

Key responsibilities will include:

- Lead, supervise and support the Civil Works team to deliver Council's annual works programs.

- Coordinate daily work schedules, allocating staff, plant, equipment and other resources to ensure efficient delivery.

- Oversee road construction, road maintenance and other civil works across the district.

- Undertake hands-on civil works and operate plant and machinery as required.

- Coordinate and manage contractors engaged to undertake civil works.

- Monitor work progress, budgets, performance and service outcomes.

- Contribute to the planning, scoping and costing of civil works programs and budget submissions.





- Ensure works are undertaken safely and in accordance with relevant legislation, policies and procedures.

- Ensure plant and machinery is appropriately maintained and safely operated.

- Provide advice and recommendations to the Operational Works Manager regarding works, resources, emerging issues and operational requirements.

- Support the development and implementation of work plans and performance reporting.

- Address day-to-day employee matters and provide constructive leadership to the team.

- Build and maintain positive working relationships with contractors, Council staff, stakeholders and members of the community.

- Assist with Council's after-hours call system and broader operational requirements as required.

About You

We are looking for an experienced civil works professional who can confidently lead a team while remaining actively involved in the delivery of works.

You will have:

- Demonstrated experience in civil works, road construction, road maintenance or a similar operational environment.

- Experience supervising, leading or coordinating a team in a works-based environment.

- Strong knowledge of civil works practices, plant and equipment and worksite safety.

- The ability to effectively plan, prioritise and coordinate people and resources.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with employees, contractors and the community.

- Sound administrative and organisational skills, including the ability to maintain accurate records and monitor budgets.

- The ability to identify issues,



make sound decisions and provide practical solutions.

- A strong commitment to safety, quality, customer service and value for money.

- Confidence using relevant computer systems and software to support operational planning, reporting and administration.

A relevant trade qualification or equivalent experience, together with appropriate plant and machinery competencies, will be highly regarded.
