System Safety Engineer – Defence Capability Programs

Play a critical role in ensuring the safety, integrity, and reliability of advanced defence systems that contribute directly to Australia's sovereign defence capability. As a System Safety Engineer, you'll work on complex and technically challenging programs, helping to identify, assess, and mitigate risks throughout the engineering lifecycle.

Whether you're an experienced safety engineer or a systems engineer looking to specialise in safety, you'll be supported by a collaborative team of experts, structured development opportunities, and exposure to some of Australia's most significant defence projects.

About the Role

As a System Safety Engineer, you'll contribute to the planning and delivery of system safety programs across complex defence platforms and integrated systems. Working closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, you'll ensure safety requirements are considered from concept through to integration, verification, and operational deployment.

You will be involved in:

- Planning and delivering system safety activities throughout the project lifecycle.

- Conducting hazard identification, risk assessment, and safety analysis activities.

- Developing and maintaining safety cases, safety assessments, and associated documentation.

- Collaborating with software, hardware, systems, and project teams to ensure safety requirements are effectively implemented.

- Supporting system integration, verification, validation, and acceptance activities.

- Participating in technical reviews and ensuring compliance with relevant safety standards and customer requirements.





This role offers the opportunity to work on long-term programs that deliver meaningful outcomes for Australia's defence and security capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

- Plan, coordinate, and deliver system safety program activities.

- Undertake hazard analyses, risk assessments, and safety engineering studies.

- Support the development of system requirements and safety-related design activities.

- Contribute to system architecture reviews and engineering design decisions.

- Support verification and validation activities to demonstrate compliance with safety requirements.

- Prepare and maintain safety documentation, reports, and technical deliverables.

- Collaborate across engineering disciplines to deliver safe and effective capability outcomes.

About You

We're looking for engineers who are passionate about solving complex problems and making a tangible impact through safe and reliable system design.

Experience & Qualifications

· Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.

· Experience in Systems and/or Safety Engineering within a complex engineering environment.

· Understanding of systems engineering principles, including requirements management, integration, verification, and validation.

· Experience with systems engineering tools such as DOORS, MBSE, or similar is desirable.

· Defence, aerospace, maritime,



rail, transport, or other highly regulated industry experience is advantageous.

· Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.

· Australian Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain an NV1 Security Clearance are essential.
