FIFO Engagement/Employment Consultant – Cairns based role
We are seeking passionate, community-focused FIFO Engagement/Employment Consultants to support employment, training, and community engagement outcomes across our remote regions. This role is based in Cairns and involves working both from the Cairns office and on-site at our QLD remote regions for a minimum of two weeks each month, with additional travel as required.
This is an opportunity to build strong and meaningful relationships with participants, Elders, community leaders, employers, and key stakeholders to create sustainable pathways to training and employment.
As an Engagement/Employment Consultant, you will work collaboratively with individuals and communities to identify opportunities, overcome barriers, and deliver culturally appropriate, community-led solutions that strengthen workforce participation and build local capacity.
Travel allowances and accommodation will be provided while working in community locations.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain respectful, culturally appropriate relationships with community members, Elders, Traditional Owners, and stakeholders.
- Support participants to identify employment goals and overcome barriers through tailored guidance and case management.
- Connect participants with employers, training providers, and community organisations.
- Develop and deliver employment, training, and workforce participation initiatives that respond to community needs.
- Deliver Employment Placement Support for our participants
- Promote EMG services through community engagement, stakeholder meetings, and networking activities.
- Coordinate job readiness supports, including licences, ID requirements, training, and tickets.
- Monitor participant progress, providing ongoing mentoring and support.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to continuous service improvement.
About You
You are a skilled relationship builder who is passionate about empowering people and supporting robust, thriving communities. You have experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, value cultural respect and genuine engagement, and are committed to achieving sustainable employment outcomes.
Essential Criteria
- Strong communication, consultation, coaching, and relationship-building skills.
- Experience working collaboratively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Demonstrated cultural capability and the ability to build trust and credibility.
- Knowledge of the RAES program and employment, training, or workforce participation services.
- Experience delivering participant-focused employment, training, community development, or workforce programs.
- Ability to engage stakeholders and develop effective partnerships.
- Strong organisational, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
- Willingness to travel and stay in remote communities.
- Ability to obtain a National Police Check and Blue Card.
- Current Driver Licence (desirable).
Desirable Criteria
- Experience in community engagement, employment services, or community development.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital systems.
- Experience working with government, employers, training providers, and community organisations.
- Understanding of Indigenous cultural protocols and strengths-based engagement approaches.
