Roads. Intersections. Cycleways. New developments.

When a community is growing, the transport network has to grow with it.

And that’s where you come in.

One day, you could be reviewing the traffic impact of a new development.

The next, you’re assessing an intersection, working through a traffic study or providing technical advice on how a road, cycleway or pedestrian network can operate more safely and efficiently.

Your recommendations will influence infrastructure people use every single day.

Pretty rewarding, right?

We’re talking an attractive rate, a 35-hour working week, hybrid working arrangements, flex leave provisions and ample free parking.

You’ll also get exposure to a seriously broad mix of traffic and transport work.

Development applications, road safety, traffic studies, infrastructure upgrades, capital works and strategic transport matters - you’re not going to be pigeonholed into doing the same thing every day.

About The Opportunity

Traffic engineering isn’t just about making cars move faster.

It’s about finding the balance between vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, public transport and the communities using the network every day.

Working within an established Traffic Engineering and Planning team, you’ll help assess, plan and deliver traffic and transport initiatives across South-West Sydney.

You’ll evaluate infrastructure requirements across intersections, roads, cycleways, footpaths and other traffic facilities, making recommendations that improve safety, accessibility and network efficiency.

One day,

you might be providing traffic engineering input into a development application.

The next, you’re reviewing a consultant-prepared traffic study, preparing a Traffic Committee report or helping progress a traffic infrastructure project through approval and implementation.

You’ll also contribute to traffic and transport capital works projects, provide technical input across broader infrastructure programs and work with external agencies around public transport, major infrastructure and road safety matters.

And when traffic issues aren’t straightforward?

You’ll need to interpret legislation, standards and policy, weigh up competing priorities and turn the technical detail into a practical recommendation that actually works in the real world.

The Business

You’ll be joining an organisation supporting one of Sydney’s rapidly growing communities, where new development continues to create demand for roads, transport infrastructure and better connections.

New communities mean current intersections.

More traffic means new safety considerations.

And major development means transport planning needs to stay one step ahead.

That puts the Traffic Engineering and Planning team right in the middle of some pretty important decisions.

You’ll work alongside experienced traffic and transport professionals, internal engineering and planning teams, consultants, government agencies and the community.

About You

Traffic engineering is already familiar territory.

You’ll bring tertiary qualifications in Traffic Engineering, Civil Engineering or a related discipline, or strong experience working within a similar traffic and transport role.

You understand how a transport network operates beyond the textbook.

Traffic studies, intersection and road assessments, development applications, traffic management and transport infrastructure are all areas you’ve had exposure to.

You’re comfortable working within relevant traffic and transport legislation, regulations, standards, policies and procedures, and using those requirements to make considered technical recommendations.

Writing reports doesn’t phase you either.

Whether it’s a technical assessment, Traffic Committee report, recommendation or project update, you can take complex information and turn it into something logical, well considered and easy to understand.

You’re also comfortable dealing with people.

Consultants, planners, engineers, government agencies, residents, you can explain your position, negotiate when priorities compete and work towards a practical outcome.

Experience using traffic or transport modelling software will be highly regarded, as will relevant road safety or traffic management accreditations.

And if you’ve managed traffic or transport projects through capital works or worked within a council environment?
