Paediatric Occupational Therapist or Speech Pathologist

Phoenix Project Allied Health | Chisholm, Canberra
Full-time preferred | Part-time considered
Experienced clinicians and motivated new graduates encouraged to apply

$85,000–$115,000 base salary plus superannuation

Help us build the kind of allied health service you would want to work for

Phoenix Project Allied Health is looking for an Occupational Therapist or Speech Pathologist to join our growing paediatric team.

We are a small, multidisciplinary allied health practice supporting children and young people through engaging, evidence-informed therapy delivered in our Chisholm clinic and across homes, schools and community settings.

Our approach is strengths-based, practical and individualised. We believe therapy should be something young people genuinely engage with—not something they simply tolerate.

This opportunity could suit:

- An experienced paediatric clinician who wants greater freedom to shape their work and pursue an area of clinical interest.

- An OT or Speech Pathologist wanting to transition into paediatrics with appropriate support.

- A motivated recent graduate with the drive to learn, reflect and develop into an exceptional paediatric clinician.

You do not need to arrive knowing everything. We care about curiosity, initiative, clinical integrity and a genuine desire to help young people thrive.

What makes Phoenix Project different?
Six weeks of paid leave each year

In addition to your standard four weeks of annual leave, you will receive two extra weeks of paid leave over the Christmas period.

We want our clinicians to have a genuine opportunity to rest and return to work refreshed.

Earn more when you choose to do more

We offer a transparent bonus structure that rewards clinicians who exceed their required billable hours.

The expected target is clear and achievable. The bonus exists to recognise additional contribution—not to encourage rushed appointments, overbooking or unrealistic caseloads.

A caseload that grows with you

We build caseloads gradually, particularly for new graduates and clinicians entering paediatric practice.

You will have time to learn our systems, understand your clients and develop confidence without being handed an overwhelming caseload on your first day.

A genuinely small professional team

You will work within an approachable team of Occupational Therapists, Speech Pathology and operations staff.

You will be known, supported and able to contribute to decisions—not treated as one clinician among hundreds in a large corporate structure.

Room to pursue your passion projects

We want clinicians who bring ideas.

You may be interested in developing:

- Therapeutic gaming or interest-led interventions

- Social communication or friendship programs

- AAC resources and communication supports

- Literacy or school-readiness programs

- Sensory processing and emotional regulation programs

- Executive functioning supports

- Feeding services within your professional scope

- Parent workshops or family capacity-building resources

- LEGO, tabletop gaming or other therapeutic groups

- Resources for schools, families or other clinicians

If you have a promising idea, we want to explore how it could become part of the Phoenix Project.

Flexibility with trust and accountability

The role includes a combination of clinic-based and mobile work. We also offer reasonable flexibility around how non-client work is completed, provided clients are supported, documentation is current and communication remains responsive.

About the role

You will work with children, adolescents and young adults with a range of developmental, communication and functional needs.

Depending on your profession, interests and experience, your caseload may include young people requiring support with:

- Autism and ADHD-related needs

- Speech sounds and intelligibility

- Receptive and expressive language

- AAC and functional communication

- Literacy development

- Social communication and participation

- Emotional regulation

- Sensory processing

- Executive functioning

- Fine and gross motor skills

- School readiness and participation

- Play and daily living skills

- Feeding within the clinician’s professional competency and scope

- Confidence and independence across everyday environments

Your responsibilities may include:

- Completing initial consultations and relevant assessments

- Developing individualised, goal-driven therapy plans

- Delivering engaging one-to-one therapy

- Supporting clients in the clinic, home, school and community

- Collaborating with families, educators and other professionals

- Preparing clear, timely and clinically meaningful documentation

- Developing practical strategies that translate into everyday life

- Participating in supervision and reflective practice

- Contributing to group programs, resources or service-development projects

You will always practise within the scope of your own profession.

Our multidisciplinary approach is about collaboration around shared functional goals, while maintaining clear professional boundaries.

What we are looking for

You will need:

- A recognised qualification in Occupational Therapy or Speech Pathology

- For Occupational Therapists: current AHPRA registration or eligibility for registration upon graduation

- For Speech Pathologists: current Speech Pathology Australia membership, or eligibility for membership and Certified Practising Speech Pathologist status

- A genuine interest in working with children, young people and families

- Strong communication and relationship-building skills

- A willingness to learn, reflect and receive feedback

- Good organisation and qualified accountability

- A current Working with Vulnerable People registration, or willingness to obtain one

- A current NDIS Worker Screening Check, or willingness to obtain one

- A valid driver’s licence and access to a suitable vehicle

- Australian working rights

Previous paediatric or NDIS experience is welcomed but is not essential for the right person.

The kind of person who will thrive here

You may be a great fit if you:

- Build genuine connections with children and families

- Enjoy making therapy engaging and meaningful

- Take responsibility for communication, preparation and documentation

- Ask questions and seek support when you need it

- Bring ideas rather than waiting to be told exactly what to do

- Care about evidence, ethics and meaningful outcomes

- Want to keep developing your clinical skills

- Would enjoy helping a young practice grow into something exceptional
