The Indigenous Desert Alliance (IDA) is seeking a Logistics Officer to coordinate travel, fleet, field equipment and operational logistics from our Alice Springs office.

About IDA

The Indigenous Desert Alliance (IDA) is an Indigenous-led, member-based organisation. Our membership is made up of Indigenous Land Management Organisations from the desert (ILMOs). We work with over 70 ranger groups and play a vital role strengthening desert ranger programs and keeping the desert connected.

Directed by Traditional Owners, ILMOs and their ranger teams undertake a wide range of cultural, environmental, and natural resource management activities. These activities include:

- cultural knowledge transfer
- cultural site and heritage management
- fire management
- feral animal and weed control
- threatened species recovery projects
- fee for service economic activities

The IDA works closely with ILMOs to ensure that Indigenous rangers can collaboratively manage the Australian desert and realise their aspirations for community, culture, and Country. We do so by facilitating connections between ILMOs and stakeholders, by providing operational, capacity building and project management support, and through advocacy.

About the role

Reporting to the Corporate Services Manager, the Logistics Officer will help ensure IDA’s staff, vehicles and equipment are prepared and ready for travel and field activities.

This is a part-time position working 25 hours per week - five hours per day, Monday to Friday - to provide consistent logistics support across the working week. The hours may be well suited to someone seeking a school-hours arrangement.

Key responsibilities include:

- Coordinating approved staff travel, including flights, accommodation, ground transport and itineraries.




- Working with trip leaders to prepare vehicles, equipment, supplies and communications devices for field activities.
- Managing field equipment and operational assets, including satellite phones, personal locator beacons, first-aid kits, radios and camping equipment.
- Coordinating vehicle bookings, servicing, inspections, maintenance and defect follow-up.
- Maintaining accurate fleet, asset and travel records using IDA’s digital systems.
- Coordinating freight, deliveries, storage, supplies and practical logistics for the Alice Springs office.
- Identifying and escalating safety, equipment or logistical issues before they affect operations.
- Supporting improvements to IDA’s fleet, travel and logistics processes.

About you

You will be organised, reliable and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a busy operational environment. You will also have:

- Experience in logistics, travel coordination, fleet coordination, asset management, administration or a similar operational support role.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Practical problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and escalate issues early.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work respectfully with staff, suppliers, First Nations people and people from diverse backgrounds.
- Confidence using Microsoft 365 and the ability to learn fleet, travel and asset-management systems.
- A current unrestricted C class driver licence.

Experience supporting remote field operations, ranger programs, land management or community-based organisations would be highly regarded.
