Description

What We’re Looking For: We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Water Civil Engineer to join the Infrastructure Planning and Engineering Branch. The Infrastructure Planning and Engineering Branch is responsible for asset and growth strategy, portfolio, program and project development and planning, analytics and modelling services, technical engineering advice and design management services to ensure the Icon Water’s assets are safe, sustainable and fit for purpose in the long term.

About this role: The role of the Water Engineer – Civil is to support senior engineering staff and contribute to providing technical expertise, advice. The Water Engineer – Civil will provide support to other senior engineers in design review, production and update of standards, and implementing the Engineering Assurance framework

Responsibilities of this role: To be successful in this role you will be required to:

- Provide assistance to the Associate Dam Safety Engineer and work closely with them to deliver the Dam Safety Program of work.

- Independently respond to technical queries from the Urban Development Services section and other stakeholders, ensuring thorough analysis, while coordinating with team members to provide consistent responses to deviations from standards.

- Provide assistance in preparation of technical user requirements specifications and review and update of the standards.





- Carry out the engineering investigation process into issues of material significance to the successful and efficient operation of Icon Water’s assets.

- Collecting and analysing data for root cause analysis

- Carryout condition assessment and monitoring of Icon Water assets including dams and service reservoirs

- Undertake contract development and management, and assist in tender evaluations for minor services contracts

- Keep up to date with relevant compliance obligations and communicate any material changes to the relevant responsible party within Icon Water.

- Provide input to prioritisation of activities for the specialist Civil/Mechanical engineering team, and towards daily task allocation.

- Provide technical governance for allocated projects to ensure that approved asset objectives are achieved. This involves offering business and technical expertise, guiding project managers, and ensuring that designs align with agreed deliverables. Additionally, represent the project at key milestones.

- Develop and provide technical user requirements specifications for new projects, ensuring they reflect the necessary standards and objectives for successful execution.

- Initiate and lead projects aimed at addressing engineering issues or opportunities, ensuring they align with organisational goals and deliver measurable improvements.

- Lead or contribute to engineering investigations into critical issues affecting the productive operation of Icon Water’s assets. This includes identifying actions required to resolve issues and improve performance.

- Actively identify and highlight technical risks and opportunities for resolution, ensuring any emerging challenges are addressed proactively to maintain operational efficiency.

- Conduct root cause analysis or ICAM investigations into significant technical incidents, determining causes and recommending corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.

- Develop, implement, and maintain engineering systems that promote best practices and support ongoing engineering excellence across the organisation.





- Provide expert advice to enable appropriate organisational delegates to make informed decisions regarding the integrity and reliability of assets within their domain.

- Undertake additional duties within the scope of the employee’s skills, competence, and training, as needed to support operational goals.

- Other duties within the employee’s skill, competence and training.

Who we are looking for: We’re seeking a dedicated individual who has a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Civil Structural or Mechanical discipline, that is recognised under the Washington Accord or Engineers Australia, with relevant experience in Civil or Mechanical Engineering.

You should also have the following:

- 3-5 years’ experience after graduation and technical knowledge of process and infrastructure used within the water and wastewater industry.

- Knowledge and understanding of dam safety, including ANCOLD guidelines

- Ability to write reports in the field or expertise and prepare external correspondence.

- Advanced knowledge and experience with water and wastewater assets and industry.

- Extensive experience and technical knowledge of process and infrastructure used within the water and wastewater industry.

- Ability to lead a highly specialised team in a high reliability environment.

- Ability to mount a technical ‘argument’ using a variety of communication formats in a convincing manner appropriate to the audience, peers, operations and maintenance staff.

- Ability to influence and negotiate outcomes through professional and productive engagement with senior executives and managers, peers, staff at all levels, customers and suppliers, while building and enhancing relationships.

- Advanced knowledge and experience in the integrity and optimisation of water and wastewater assets.

- To be competent in WSAA codes, Safety-in-Design requirements, HAZOP and CHAIR processes.
