Afford’s high-quality employment services are continuing to grow, and we’re looking for a Vocational Counsellor to support people with disability and complex needs to overcome barriers and achieve their employment goals. This is a role where purpose and professional expertise come together. You’ll provide short-term, solution-focused counselling and vocational support to help clients build job readiness, find meaningful employment and achieve sustainable outcomes.

About the role:

- Work across the Footscray, St Albans or Werribee sites to support IEA clients with barriers to employment
- Provide vocational counselling and practical strategies to improve wellbeing and job readiness
- Partner with Employment Consultants and Business Development Consultants to support sustainable employment outcomes
- Help clients build confidence, set goals and develop strategies to move towards open employment

What you will do:

- Assess clients’ strengths, needs and barriers that may impact their ability to find and maintain employment
- Provide short-term, solution-focused counselling and allied health interventions
- Develop strategies to address physical, emotional, mental health and lifestyle barriers to employment
- Support clients to set meaningful goals aligned with their employment plans
- Complete Strengths Passports, Wellbeing Passports and other relevant assessments and documentation
- Work closely with Employment Consultants, Senior Employment Consultants and Business Development Consultants to support client outcomes
- Provide guidance and mentoring to clients and employment services staff around complex barriers and appropriate strategies
- Research and identify relevant information,



resources and solutions based on individual client needs
- Support clients through job seeking and post-placement stages, with a focus on sustainable open employment
- Provide timely feedback and reporting to Employment Consultants and the Service Manager
- Maintain accurate client records and ensure confidentiality and compliance with relevant standards and guidelines
- Build positive relationships with clients, advocates, employers, staff and external stakeholders
- Contribute to continuous improvement, quality service delivery and a safe working environment

What you will bring:

- Vietnamese speaking is essential for this role.
- A degree-level (or higher) qualification in Allied Health Services from a recognised tertiary institution
- Experience working within a short-term, solution-focused counselling framework
- Experience supporting people with disability in an employment or direct support setting
- Strong understanding of barriers to employment and strategies to support job readiness
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong record keeping, documentation and organisational skills
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team while also working independently
- Strong problem-solving skills and a practical,



solutions-focused approach
- Experience using client databases and Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook
- A genuine commitment to Afford’s purpose and values
- Current Australian C class driver's licence and own vehicle to travel between service delivery sites
- Hold (or be willing to obtain) a current NDIS Worker Screening Check (NDISWSC) and Working with Children Check (WWCC).
