Great Southern Grammar is committed to recognising, valuing and celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures, knowledge and connections to Country. We are seeking an Indigenous Student Support Officer for a 12-month fixed-term appointment in 2027.

This role provides targeted cultural, learning, pastoral and organisational support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students across day and boarding life. It also strengthens relationships with families, community, scholarship partners and School staff.

The opportunity

- Mentor students and provide culturally responsive pastoral, wellbeing, learning and organisational support.
- Support cultural transition into day and boarding life and work closely with Learning Support, Heads of House and boarding staff.
- Help students develop learning goals, manage assessment requirements, consider course choices and build positive post-school pathways.
- Develop cultural-connection opportunities and contribute to NAIDOC Week, Reconciliation Week, cultural awareness and the School’s Reconciliation Action Plan.
- Build trusted relationships with families, local Elders, Aboriginal organisations, MADALAH, Yalari and other partners.
- Support appropriate administration, reporting, student logistics and communication while maintaining confidentiality and professional boundaries.




- Advocate for students and help colleagues strengthen culturally responsive support across learning, pastoral and boarding environments.

What you will bring

- A relevant tertiary or certificate qualification and experience supporting young people, preferably in a school, boarding or community organisation.
- Strong knowledge of Aboriginal cultures, communities and culturally responsive practice, supported by relevant relationships and lived experience.
- The ability to build positive relationships with students, families, colleagues and community members and to work both autonomously and collaboratively.
- Strong communication, organisation, problem-solving and digital/administrative skills.
- A current Working with Children Check, satisfactory National Police History Check, First Aid, Mental Health First Aid, Class C driver’s licence and Australian work rights, or capacity to meet the approved requirements before commencement.
