CSL is seeking a two (2) highly motivated Associate Scientists to join the CSL Translational Research Immunology team and contribute to the development and evaluation of novel therapeutics. Based at our new facility in Melbourne, you will focus on advancing biologic therapies, including recombinant antibodies and other protein-based mediators to target and modulate specific cell types.
You will support developing, validating, and conducting in vitro and ex vivo assays, as well as evaluating therapeutic candidates using human samples. This is an exciting opportunity to work at the interface of discovery and translational science, helping to drive the development of next‑generation therapies with the potential to improve patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate biology of novel targets and the mechanism of action of potential therapeutic candidates.
- Develop and perform multi-colour flow cytometry to phenotypically characterise immune cell subsets.
- Develop and conduct functional assays to assess leukocyte effector functions, including activation, proliferation, cytokine production, cell signalling and cell death.
- Develop and perform in vitro screening assays to identify potential therapeutic candidates.
- Utilise molecular biology techniques for the evaluation of cell populations, therapeutic candidates and biomarkers.
- Prepare cell supernatants, cell and tissue extracts for protein analysis.
- Work with primary human cells and tissues ex vivo to evaluate efficacy of therapeutic candidates.
- Assist senior personnel in the laboratory to carry out experiments.
- Prepare experimental protocols and scientific reports.
- Present scientific data at Group, Project Team and Departmental level.
- Perform data analysis using routine spreadsheet and graphing platforms and flow cytometry software (Excel, Prism (or statistical analysis programs e.g. JMP, R-Studio/R- related skills) and FlowJo)
- Organise and maintain the laboratory and laboratory records.
About You
- Tertiary degree with honours in relevant discipline (e.g. Biological Sciences, Immunology or Molecular Biology).
- 2+ years research experience in relevant scientific discipline in industry or academia.
- Experience with mammalian cell culture and handling human blood products.
- Experience in flow cytometry (eg. Cytek Aurora, MACSQuant).
- Experience in establishing and performing cell-based functional assays.
- Experience in writing scientific reports using an electronic notebook.
- Knowledge of statistical analysis of data.
- Knowledge of GLP.
- Scientific curiosity and passion for solving scientific problems in a research workplace.
- Ability to work either independently with limited supervision or as part of a team environment.
