Research Assistant Role Supporting Paediatric Nutrition and Obesity Research
Base Salary $ 93,345 (pro rata for 0.30 FTE) + 17% superannuation
About the opportunity
At the University of Sydney Susan Wakil School of Nursing and Midwifery (Sydney Nursing School) we integrate teaching, research, and scholarship with practice and policy development, while fostering engagement with all health professions.
We are seeking a proactive and highly organised Research Assistant who can contribute immediately to a growing Paediatric nutrition and dietetics research program led by Dr Mariam Mandoh .
Your key responsibilities will be to:
- support the establishment and delivery of the research program, ensuring research activities are executed effectively and in line with project objectives
- conduct comprehensive literature reviews and scientific literature searches to support research projects and grant development
- contribute to the preparation, drafting, submission and dissemination of research manuscripts and publications
- assist with participant recruitment activities and maintain ongoing communication with research participants throughout study delivery
- develop and maintain research databases and data collection instruments, including REDCap survey and data management systems
- manage research databases, ensuring data quality, integrity, accuracy and compliance with research governance requirements
- undertake qualitative and quantitative research methods, qualitative and quantitative data analysis, and data synthesis
- provide administrative support for research projects, including documentation, purchasing, reporting and meeting coordination
- liaise effectively with participants, clinicians, researchers and internal stakeholders to facilitate successful project activities and outcomes
- build and maintain productive relationships with clinical partners, collaborators and other key stakeholders to support research delivery
- attend project meetings and provide support to research staff and higher degree research students, including Master's student meetings
- assist with data collection, analysis, reporting and dissemination of research findings through publications and presentations
- contribute to research focused on dietetics, nutrition and paediatric obesity management
About you
- qualifications in Nutrition and Dietetics, with eligibility for qualified accreditation or registration with Dietitians Australia
- demonstrated experience supporting health, nutrition, dietetics or clinical research projects, within paediatric obesity
- experience conducting literature reviews, evidence synthesis, critical appraisal and manuscript preparation for publication
- successfully prepared and submitted a manuscript for publication, demonstrating scientific writing skills and the ability to contribute to research dissemination.
- demonstrated ability to contribute to research dissemination activities, including conference presentations, publications and knowledge translation initiatives
- experience recruiting and engaging research participants in paediatric nutrition and maintaining productive relationships with research stakeholders, clinicians and community partners
- experience using research databases and data collection platforms, including REDCap or similar systems, and maintaining accurate research records and datasets
- strong organisational skills with the ability to coordinate multiple research activities, manage competing priorities and meet project deadlines
- excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with academic staff, clinicians, students and research participants
- a current Working With Children Check, or willingness to obtain one, and the ability to satisfy any role-specific compliance requirements
- proven ability to work independently while also contributing positively within a research team.
- Able to work efficiently and effectively under pressure
- demonstrated strong work ethic, reliability, attention to detail, and professionalism in completing project tasks.
- strong computer literacy and is proficient in using a range of software programs and digital platforms. relevant to research settings e.g. Endnote, NVivo, SPSS, Canva, etc
