Metropolitan Groove Merchants (Planet / MGM) is a proudly independent Australian music distribution and artist services company, founded in Sydney in 1998.

We’re looking for an experienced and motivated individual to join our team and manage The Planet Company, MGM’s division specialising in the import, release and sale of physical music products across Australia. This is a hands‑on role suited to someone with experience in physical music retail, wholesale or distribution, who combines strong organisational skills with a genuine passion for music.

Start date is early October, with a comprehensive three-month handover and training period alongside the departing manager to ensure a smooth transition into the role.

The successful applicant MUST be based in Sydney, Australia and will have:

- Strong knowledge of the music industry and physical music formats
- A good understanding of the Australian physical music retail and wholesale landscape
- Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- A genuine passion for music and a desire to build a career within the industry
- The ability to work confidently and independently while contributing to a close-knit team

Responsibilities

- Initiate and maintain relationships with overseas suppliers, including occasional international travel
- Negotiate and finalise distribution agreements with clients




- Coordinate freight and consolidation of stock shipments to Australia
- Prepare purchase orders and manage goods receipt processes
- Maintain and manage release schedules
- Oversee Music catalogue management, including updates and deletions
- Liaise with retail partners and internal sales teams to prioritise releases and provide supporting materials
- Prepare weekly and monthly sales, inventory, and financial reports

Skills & Experience / Qualifications

- Positive attitude with excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Previous experience working with product metadata (music industry preferred )
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including VLOOKUPs and Pivot Tables)
- Working knowledge of SAP (or similar ERP systems) is essential
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- High level of numeracy and attention to detail
- Solid communication and relationship management abilities
- Background in physical music retail, wholesale, or distribution preferred
- Highly detail orientated
- Proven experience in multi-tasking, working with multiple people and prioritizing deadlines in a fast‑paced environment
- Self‑motivated with the ability to take initiative and be proactive and resourceful
- Ability with Creative Cloud programs desirable
- Ability to read, interpret and summarize analytical information from digital service platforms
