Location:

North Melbourne, VIC

Position:

Technical Delivery Lead

Type:

Full-time

Sector:

About Mo Works

Our mission is to empower those building a better future.

Mo Works is a creative digital consultancy, not a traditional agency.

We work with organisations across utilities, energy, education, health, public sector, logistics and complex B2B environments, combining strategy, brand, marketing and digital delivery under one roof.

Our digital work spans websites, web applications, mobile applications, CMS platforms, integrations, cloud environments and ongoing digital enablement.

We’re looking for someone who can take ownership of the technical quality behind that work.

About the Role

The Technical Delivery Lead is a hands‑on role responsible for technical implementation quality, feasibility and engineering standards across digital projects.

You’ll work closely with our Business Analyst / Solutions Designer, Account Project Managers, designers and developers to make sure requirements are technically feasible, estimates are realistic and builds are delivered to the right standard.

You will guide developers, review implementation quality, support technical planning, oversee QA and releases, and identify technical risks before they become delivery problems.

You’ll also contribute directly to technical problem‑solving, code and estimates review, diagnosing issues, architecture discussions and production support where required.

This role suits an experienced developer ready to take greater ownership of technical delivery without moving away from hands‑on engineering.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Architecture & Feasibility

- Review functional requirements and assess technical feasibility.
- Recommend practical implementation approaches within the agreed architecture.
- Support technical planning, estimation and task breakdown.
- Identify technical dependencies, constraints and risks early.
- Work with the Business Analyst / Solutions Designer to clarify requirements before development begins.
- Support Account Project Managers with reliable technical inputs into delivery planning.
- Escalate significant architecture, security or platform risks when specialist or senior input is required.
- Help ensure technical decisions balance quality, maintainability, delivery speed and project requirements.
- Audit existing applications, repositories and environments when taking over legacy or third‑party systems.
- Identify technical debt, scalability concerns, security risks and system dependencies early.
- Ensure architecture and key technical decisions are properly documented.

Engineering Quality & Standards

- Review pull requests and key code changes.
- Maintain coding, documentation and code‑review standards.
- Review internal,

contractor and legacy development work where required.
- Identify maintainability, performance and security issues.
- Help reduce technical debt and avoidable post‑launch defects.
- Ensure developers follow agreed engineering practices.
- Contribute directly to architecture or code where hands‑on intervention is required.
- Encourage reusable, maintainable development rather than short‑term fixes.

QA, Release & Production Readiness

- Support technical QA across websites, web applications and mobile products.
- Define appropriate testing requirements for each project.
- Review builds before release and identify technical risks.
- Maintain release, deployment and rollback checklists.
- Support defect investigation, root‑cause analysis and resolution.
- Ensure production issues are properly resolved rather than repeatedly patched.
- Make the final technical call on whether a build is ready for release.

Cloud, DevOps & Platform Reliability

- Support the review and maintenance of AWS, Azure and other cloud environments.
- Review development, staging and production environment configuration.
- Support CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows.
- Review permissions, access and basic security configuration.

- Support performance and infrastructure optimisation.
- Assist with production incidents and platform troubleshooting.Ensure environments and deployment processes are appropriately documented.

Technical Planning & Delivery

- Lead technical estimation and provide reliable technical inputs into project planning.
- Identify technical dependencies, risks and constraints before development begins.
- Work with Account Project Managers to ensure technical plans align with delivery timelines and scope.
- Work with the Business Analyst / Solutions Designer to validate that functional requirements are technically feasible and sufficiently defined.

- Provide clear technical updates to non‑technical stakeholders when required.
- Support production incidents and ensure agreed technical SLAs are met.
- Provide day‑to‑day technical guidance to developers and interns.
- Review estimates, work and provide constructive technical feedback.
- Support knowledge sharing and consistent engineering practices across the team.
- Assist with onboarding and training developers.
- Contribute to technical assessments when recruiting development talent.

- Help distribute technical knowledge so critical systems are not dependent on one person.

Performance & Continuous Improvement

- Ensure analytics, monitoring and technical tracking requirements are implemented correctly.
- Support technical SEO, accessibility and performance requirements.
- Identify recurring technical issues and recommend improvements.
- Monitor technical debt and raise areas requiring remediation.
- Help improve the balance between new development and fixing existing issues.
- Contribute to ongoing improvements in engineering standards, documentation and delivery processes.

KPIs

Success in this role will be measured primarily through:

- Post-launch defect and issue rate
- Technical estimate accuracy and delivery reliability
- SLA compliance and technical response performance

What Success Looks Like

Digital projects are implemented cleanly and reliably.

Developers receive clear technical guidance and issues are identified before they reach production.

Technical estimates become more accurate and project teams understand technical risks early.

Code quality, QA and release standards are consistently followed.

Production issues reduce over time and recurring problems are properly resolved.

The development team becomes more capable and less dependent on individual developers.

Most importantly, technical delivery becomes more predictable — with fewer surprises, less rework and stronger quality across every release.

About You

You are an experienced developer who is comfortable taking responsibility beyond your own individual tasks.

You enjoy being close to the work, but you can also step back, review what the team is building and identify what needs to improve.

You can communicate clearly with developers, designers, project managers and non‑technical stakeholders.

You’re pragmatic, organised and willing to challenge poor technical decisions when needed.

Ideally, you bring:

- 3–7 years of software engineering experience.
- Experience leading technical delivery, mentoring developers or taking ownership of engineering quality.
- Strong experience with React and Next.js.
- Good backend experience with Node.js and frameworks such as NestJS.
- Strong understanding of APIs and integrations.
- Experience working with CMS platforms such as Strapi or similar headless CMS platforms.
- Practical experience with WP Engine, AWS and/or Azure.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and deployment workflows.
- Strong code‑review and debugging capability.
- Experience supporting live production applications.
- Understanding of QA, automated testing and release processes.
- Good understanding of security, authentication and permissions.
- Experience with Git-based development workflows.
- Strong skilled English communication.

Why Join Us?

- Be part of an integrated team of strategists, designers, developers and marketers
- Ongoing training and career development
- Flexibility and an emphasis on work‑life balance
