Construction Operations Manager | Developer Builder
A well-established Sydney developer-builder is looking to appoint an experienced Construction Operations Manager to take a senior leadership position across its growing construction platform.
This is a broader role than overseeing the delivery of a single project. Working alongside the Directors and senior leadership team, you will sit across approximately five live project teams, providing operational oversight while improving the systems, structure, commercial discipline and consistency of project delivery.
The business has an established development pipeline alongside a growing third-party construction arm, making this a key appointment as the construction function continues to mature and scale.
The Role
You will be responsible for:
- Operational oversight across approximately five live construction projects and their delivery teams
- Working closely with the Directors, Development Director, CFO and senior leadership team
- Contributing to senior leadership discussions around construction performance, risk and business strategy
- Reviewing and improving construction systems, procedures and project controls
- Driving consistency across reporting, procurement, commercial management, programme, quality and project delivery
- Ensuring project teams are accountable and consistently following agreed processes
- Identifying commercial and delivery risks across the portfolio before they become project issues
- Supporting project teams with complex delivery and commercial matters
- Improving communication and reporting between project teams and senior management
- Supporting the continued growth and structure of the business's third-party contracting capability
- Working across key stakeholder interfaces including clients, consultants, government bodies and development partners
- Representing the construction business professionally with external stakeholders
About You
We are looking for an established construction skilled who has come through project delivery and understands how successful projects operate from both a delivery and commercial perspective.
You will ideally have:
- Previous experience as a Construction Manager, Operations Manager, Project Director or senior construction leader
- Alternatively, a highly experienced Senior Project Manager ready to transition into a broader operational position
- Strong experience working for a reputable head contractor or developer-builder
- Experience overseeing multiple project teams or projects simultaneously
- Strong commercial and contractual understanding
- A track record of implementing and improving construction processes and project controls
- The ability to challenge, support and hold senior project teams accountable
- Excellent client and stakeholder management skills
- Strong communication and executive presence
- A structured, professional and collaborative leadership style
