The Role
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated Senior Business Partner - Risk to join AFG in our Risk and Compliance team. Reporting directly to the Senior Manager - Risk, this role supports the broader Risk team in identifying, monitoring and reporting on both risks and controls in the business. The role will contribute to risk management across all of AFG’s business lines as well as the business support functions.
Key responsibilities:
- Support the Risk team in executing agreed risk management objectives and maturing the risk management framework;
- Supporting the migration of the enterprise risk framework to a digital platform during FY27.
- Assist with the maintenance and review of Risk Registers, Audit Actions Register and Incident Register;
- Develop and maintain the risk management framework, and apply to BAU operations activities.
- Assist with the development of new policy/procedure documents as well as the review of existing policies/procedures;
- Engage with IT to identify system or setting risks such as cyber risk and collaborate on solutions to reduce this risk;
- Assist in application of risk management methodology to the IT team’s system development work;
- Support AFG’s commitments in relation to modern slavery prevention, and reducing outsourcing-related risk;
- Contribute to the completion of lender audit written responses;
- Undertake key controls reviews, reporting findings to Senior Management and Executive teams;
- Assist the Risk team in leveraging new technology solutions to replace legacy technology where applicable;
- Provide direction and support to business units and project teams to assist them to effectively manage their risks;
- Support AFG’s AML/CTF framework and compliance with its two AML/CTF Programs, through contributing to transaction monitoring,
PEP vetting process and ensuring the timely lodgement of SMR and compliance reports;
- Support the maintenance and operation of AFG’s Business Continuity and Crisis Management framework;
- Develop risk management reporting for executive committees as required, encompassing risk analytics and key risk indicators;
- Use data to identify emerging risks and to automate controls where possible;
- Provide administrative support to the Risk team and wider business as required.
Qualifications and Experience
To succeed in this role, you will possess:
- Tertiary or diploma level qualifications in a risk or generalist business-related discipline will be viewed favourably;
- 2 - 4 years’ experience in Risk Management, Compliance, Business Continuity and Control Assurance, preferably within the banking & finance industry or a professional services firm;
- Knowledge of the “3 Lines” risk management model, and experience in application of a risk management framework to a business;
- Experience using analytics in a risk management or similar business-related context, as well as experience in technology system development will be looked upon favourably;
- Competent in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.

- Sound organisational and time management skills are essential,
along with the ability to meet deadlines and effectively deliver on expectations;
- Strong presentation skills with the ability to prepare papers for Risk Committees.
- Ability to influence and encourage positive Risk culture;
- Detail orientated with excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Ability to document procedures and policies;
- Display initiative and the ability to make effective decisions in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
