This position will involve an approximate 50/50 mix of GTAW (TIG) and GMAW/FCAW (MIG) welding , depending on current projects.
While strong capability across both processes is required, high-quality TIG welding ability is a key requirement for this position .
The successful applicant must be confident welding a broad range of materials, including carbon steel, stainless steel and specialised/alloy steels , while consistently producing high-quality work to specified procedures.
Key Responsibilities
You will be involved in the fabrication and welding of:
- Mining and oil & gas components
- Pipework, spools and pressure components
- Structural and heavy fabricated assemblies
- Chutes, tanks and skids
- Carbon steel
- Stainless steel
- Quenched and tempered steels
- Alloy and specialised steels
Your work will include:
- GTAW/TIG welding of pipework and fabricated components
- GMAW and FCAW welding across a range of steel grades
- Pipe and positional welding
- Setting up and controlling argon purge systems
- Setting up and operating pipe rotators/positioners

Our workshop utilises modern welding technology including Lincoln S500 and S700 welding systems with HyperFill capability .
Experience working to standards such as AS1554 SP, AS3992,
ASME IX and AWS D1.1 will be highly regarded.
Weld Test
Successful applicants will be required to complete a GTAW/TIG weld test on 316 stainless steel pipe as part of the recruitment process.
The test will require the applicant to demonstrate their ability to:
- Prepare and fit the pipe for welding
- Set up the TIG welding machine and appropriate parameters
- Independently set up purge lines and the purge system
- Establish and maintain an effective argon purge
- Set up and correctly utilise a pipe rotator
