About the Role

We are offering a casual role of Family Contact Worker in the team at our Fremantle location.

Following parental separation, it is important for children’s well-being and development that they remain connected with significant people in their lives, and that they be shielded from conflict and abuse.

The Child Contact Service provides safe and supportive way for children to transition between separated parents (supervised changeovers) and establish or maintain a relationship with the parent/carer they do not live with and with other family members (supervised contact visits).
Reporting to the Team Leader, the Family Contact Worker plays an important role in fostering safe and positive interactions between children and their parents/carers following separation and divorce and strengthening these relationships.

Responsibilities:

- Works Directly with families to facilitate secure, child-focused changeovers and supervised contact time.

- Actively and vigilantly monitor and observes parents spending time with their children, and ensure smooth, safe and conflict free contact time

- Systematically record observational reports and case notes of parent-child interactions in a timely, accurate, concise and objective manner.





- Create and maintain a physically, emotionally and psychologically safe and child- focused environment. Report any Work Health & Safety matters in incident report

- Continually assesses for risk and act on any child welfare concerns in consultation with Team Leader and Practice Leads, in accordance with RAWA Client Safety Concerns Policy

- Demonstrate inclusivity and cultural sensitivity, compassion and empathy

- Team Commitment and Communication

- Demonstrate ability to work collaboratively and effectively within a team, and take guidance and direction

- Maintain and develop professional skills by attending courses and training

- Attend and positively contribute to supervision and meetings relevant to Children’s Contact Service and contact issues

Criteria

ESSENTIAL:

- Possession of, or progression towards, qualifications in Social Work, Psychology or Social/ Behavioural Sciences, or similar

- A current Working with Children’s Check

- A current National Police Certificate

- Availability to work on weekends

DESIRABLE:

- Experience in working with children and families

- Knowledge and understanding of Child Protection Issues

- Knowledge and understanding of Family Abuse and Domestic Violence





- Knowledge and understanding of Family Law and issues around separated families
