Community Engagement Business Partner
Want to lead engagement on projects that shape the future of the City of Melville?
We are looking for an experienced engagement professional to take ownership of a diverse portfolio of high-profile projects, strategies and service improvements. You will work alongside project managers, technical specialists and leaders to navigate complex issues, bring stakeholder and community perspectives into the room, and help shape better decisions.
Combining strategic thinking with hands-on delivery, you will lead engagement from initial scoping through to implementation, evaluation and reporting. You will design contemporary engagement approaches, manage competing priorities and stakeholder interests, and turn community feedback into explicit, evidence-based insights.

Salary: Level 7 $107, 197.79 to $113,642.76 pro-rata p.a. + 12% Super
Employment Type: Fixed Term (2 years) Full Time
What you’ll do
- Manage engagement for major projects, strategies and service improvements, from initial scoping through to delivery, reporting and evaluation.
- Partner with project leads and technical teams to identify engagement requirements, stakeholders, risks and appropriate levels of participation.
- Design and deliver contemporary engagement approaches that build trust, encourage meaningful participation and reach diverse audiences.
- Coordinate digital and face-to-face engagement activities, including surveys, workshops, focus groups, stakeholder meetings and information sessions.
- Develop clear, accessible consultation materials and communications for community and stakeholder audiences.
- Navigate complex issues and competing stakeholder interests while maintaining productive relationships.
- Manage engagement timelines, budgets, suppliers, risks and competing project priorities.
- Analyse community and stakeholder feedback, and translate it into clear, evidence-based reports and recommendations that inform officer advice and Council decision-making
- Champion best-practice engagement and build engagement capability across the organisation.
You will become a trusted partner to project managers, technical specialists and leaders across the organisation. You will help teams determine the right engagement approach, and then work with them to deliver it.
What we’re looking for
You will bring:
- Demonstrated experience in the development, design,
management and delivery of complex community and stakeholder engagement projects from initial scoping through to evaluation and reporting.
- Completion of the IAP2 Australasia Certificate in Engagement, or equivalent professional knowledge and experience, with demonstrated practical application of the IAP2 framework.
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects, timelines, budgets, risks and competing priorities.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and experience working with project teams, leaders and external stakeholders.
- The ability to understand complex issues and translate them into clear, accessible engagement activities and communications.
- Experience analysing engagement outcomes and preparing evidence-based reports for decision-makers.
- Sound judgement and the ability to consider political context, community expectations, project risks and organisational priorities.
- Excellent written communication, facilitation, relationship-management and influencing skills.
Desirable
- Experience in local, state or federal government.
- Experience supporting Council or executive decision-making through engagement reporting.
