TAFE WA Central Regional
Northam
We have a temporary full-time appointment from ASAP until 15 September 2028 with the possibility of permanency in the future.
About the role
Many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander learners have vocational skills and capabilities developed through community responsibilities and culturally authorised Traditional Knowledge practice that are not fully recognised within nationally accredited qualifications. This can limit skills recognition, progression and employment pathways, particularly in land and sea management, cultural heritage and cultural tourism. In partnership with other TAFEs and on behalf of the National TAFE Network, Central Regional TAFE is leading the development and piloting of Australia’s first National On-Country VET Framework for Recognising Traditional Knowledge. The Project will establish a community-governed approach to identifying, documenting and recognising individual vocational skills and capabilities against relevant VET competency requirements, while protecting community authority over the underlying Traditional Knowledge, Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property and Indigenous data sovereignty.
The Principal Curriculum and Assessment Specialist provides authoritative specialist advice and leads the design, development, validation and refinement of curriculum, recognition, assessment and educator capability products for the National On-Country VET Framework for Recognising Traditional Knowledge. The role translates community-led co-design outcomes into nationally compliant VET products while protecting community authority over Traditional Knowledge, Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property and Indigenous data sovereignty. The position reports to the Manager, National VET On-Country Framework Project and works across Central,
North and South Regional TAFEs, project governance bodies, participating communities, lecturers, subject matter experts and the independent evaluator.
To be successful in this role, you will bring substantial experience designing and validating VET curriculum and assessment products, expert knowledge of the national training system, and demonstrated experience working respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Suitability Requirements and Eligibility
Applicants will be assessed by their skills, experiences and attributes in relation to the job requirements and leadership behaviours required for the role. More information about eligibility requirements can be found on the Job Description Form.
To be considered eligible for employment, you must possess current and valid Australian work rights, such as Australian citizenship, permanent residency or an appropriate working visa. Please note that visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
You must also hold, or have the ability to obtain, a Department of Education Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and a Working with Children (WWC) Card. Appointment will be subject to the satisfactory completion of any mandatory pre-employment screening requirements.
We’re always on the lookout for excellent people.
If you’re suitable but not selected for this role but we believe you’d be a strong fit elsewhere, over the next 12 months we may consider you for other opportunities within the organisation or share your details with other agencies - with your permission.
