About the role
We are seeking an Import Air Freight Specialist to join our dynamic team at our Welshpool facility on a full-time basis . This is a strategic position within our freight forwarding operations, responsible for managing and coordinating all aspects of incoming air freight shipments. As an Import Air Freight Specialist, you will be integral to ensuring that goods move efficiently through our import processes, maintaining compliance with customs regulations, and delivering exceptional service to our clients. This role offers the opportunity to develop expertise in air freight logistics whilst contributing directly to the success of XLI's operations.

Key responsibilities

- Processing and managing import air freight shipments from receipt through to delivery, ensuring accuracy and timeliness at every stage

- Coordinating with airlines, customs brokers, and shipping agents to facilitate smooth clearance and handling of incoming cargo

- Preparing and reviewing import documentation including airway bills, customs declarations, invoices,



and certificates of origin

- Liaising with clients to provide shipment updates, manage expectations, and resolve any issues or queries regarding their freight

- Monitoring shipment status and proactively communicating delays or complications to relevant stakeholders

- Ensuring compliance with all customs regulations, import duties, and relevant legislative requirements

- Managing warehouse logistics and coordinating the physical receipt, inspection, and storage of cargo

- Maintaining accurate records and data entry within our freight management systems

- Identifying opportunities to optimise processes and reduce costs whilst maintaining service quality

- Supporting the wider team during peak periods and contributing to a collaborative working environment

What we're looking for

- Proven experience working in air freight forwarding or import logistics, preferably within the freight/cargo forwarding industry

- Robust knowledge of customs procedures, import regulations, and international trade documentation

- Proficiency with freight management systems and logistics software packages (Cargowise)

- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple shipments and deadlines simultaneously

- Strong communication skills,



both written and verbal, with the ability to liaise effectively with internal teams, clients, and external partners

- Attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy in all documentation and data entry

- Problem-solving ability and a proactive approach to resolving issues

- Ability to work independently and take initiative whilst being a collaborative team member

- Relevant qualifications in logistics, freight forwarding, or customs brokerage are highly desirable
