### **Volunteer Mission Bus Drivers - Supporting Seafarers in Sydney**
**About the Mission**
The Mission to Seafarers Sydney is a not-for-profit organisation providing practical, pastoral and welfare support to seafarers visiting Sydney. Many seafarers spend months away from their families and home communities, and our volunteers play an important role in helping them feel welcomed, supported and connected while in port.
**About the role**
We are seeking reliable, friendly and safety-conscious volunteers to join our team as Mission Bus Drivers.
Our Mission bus service provides seafarers with transport between port terminals and the Mission's Seafarer Centre, helping them access welfare support, communications, refreshments, shopping and a welcoming place to relax.
This is a rewarding role for someone who enjoys driving, meeting people from different cultures and making a practical difference in the lives of seafarers.
**Key responsibilities**
- Safely drive the Mission bus to transport seafarers between designated port terminals and the Mission Centre.
- Assist seafarers with boarding and disembarking where required.
- Provide a friendly and welcoming experience to seafarers.
- Communicate clearly and respectfully with people from different cultural and language backgrounds.
- Follow Mission, port and terminal safety procedures.
- Complete required trip and vehicle records accurately.
- Check that the vehicle is clean and ready for service.
- Report any vehicle, safety or operational concerns promptly.
- Follow the Mission's policies and procedures, including safeguarding and professional conduct requirements.
**What we are looking for**
You will ideally:
- Hold a valid Australian driver's licence and have a clean driving record. LR licence support may be provided to suitable candidates.
- Applicants with an LR,
MR or HR licence are encouraged to apply.
- Be comfortable driving a 12–seater to 24-seater bus and transporting passengers safely.
- Be reliable, punctual and responsible.
- Be friendly, patient and respectful when interacting with seafarers from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Have good communication skills and be able to work independently.
- Be comfortable following schedules, procedures and port/terminal requirements.
- Be willing to undertake required checks, induction and training.
- Previous bus or passenger transport experience is desirable but not essential.
**Why volunteer with us?**
By volunteering as a Mission Bus Driver, you will:
- Make a direct and meaningful difference to the lives of seafarers.
- Meet people from around the world and learn about different cultures.
- Become part of a friendly and supportive volunteer team.
- Contribute to the Mission's significant welfare and chaplaincy work.
- Enjoy flexible rostering that can work around your availability.
- Gain valuable experience in a community-focused environment.
