ABOUT THE ROLE
Danila Dilba Health Service is seeking an Aboriginal Health Practitioner (AHP) or Registered Nurse (RN) to provide culturally appropriate, high-quality primary health care to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients across Greater Darwin.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Under the guidance of the Research Coordinator, contribute to the GACD‑funded and DDHS‑approved research project focused on co‑developing and delivering PreventNCD, a best‑evidence behavioral intervention program tailored for children and youth and integrated within the ACCHS model of care.
- Maintain effective communication and collaboration with external research partners to ensure the research project milestones, activities, and outcomes are achieved and that strong two‑way engagement is sustained.
- Participate in relevant training to ensure all research tasks are conducted in line with evidence‑based practice, as well as applicable legislative, ethical, and regulatory requirements.
- In consultation with clinicians and clients, assist with reviewing child and adolescent preventative health strategies and contribute to the development of culturally appropriate, health promotion resources.
- Be a first point of contact for clients attending the DDHS Clinics, including completing an initial diagnosis, treatment, and referrals as necessary (SODAF)
- Deliver services in accordance with DDHS policy and procedures,
guided by CARPA standard treatment manual and applicable legislation and regulations.
- Increase knowledge, access and use of preventive health care in children and adolescents.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Essential
- Certificate IV in Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care (Practice) and/or Bachelor of Nursing.
- Current registration with AHPRA.
- Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
- Demonstrated understanding and/or experience in providing Primary Health Care, utilising standard treatment manuals.
- Well-developed knowledge of, and contemporary experience in, working with Aboriginal clients in preventative health and relevant management strategies.
- Knowledge of the social determinants of health (environment, economic and social inequalities) that have a profound impact on the health and well-being of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
- Demonstrated ability to use culturally sensitive ways to ensure improved client access to DDHS and/or other health services.
- Proven teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to constructively negotiate outcomes with a diverse range of people and service providers.
- High level of personal resilience and flexibility with the ability to deal with challenging situations.
- Demonstrated computer skills,
including experience using the Microsoft suite of applications and clinical practice software.
- Have current AGV or willing to obtain.
Desirable
- Experience and/or an interest in research methodology and conduct.
- Experience and/or an interest in primary adolescent health care.
- Experience working in an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service or similar environment.
