Job Title: Credit and Risk Manager (Max-Term Contract - 12 months)Location: North SydneyEmployment Type: Full-TimeIndustry: Financial Services / Consumer LendingAn established consumer lending fintech business is seeking an experienced and commercially minded Credit and Risk Manager to join their team.In this role, you will be responsible for managing the organisation's credit risk framework, credit operations, and portfolio performance across the lending lifecycle.This role combines credit strategy, underwriting oversight, portfolio risk management, fraud monitoring, collections performance management, merchant risk oversight, compliance monitoring, and risk governance responsibilities.
You will play a key role in supporting sustainable business growth while ensuring lending decisions remain aligned with responsible lending obligations, regulatory requirements, and the organisation's risk appetite.This role is ideally suited to an experienced credit risk professional who enjoys combining strategic thinking, data-driven analysis, and hands-on operational leadership within a fast-paced fintech environment.Key ResponsibilitiesCredit Strategy & PolicyMaintain and continuously enhance Credit Policy, underwriting standards, and approval authoritiesMonitor and recommend changes to credit scorecards, decisioning rules, affordability models, and risk settingsReview and approve policy exceptions within delegated authoritySupport the development of new lending products and credit initiativesBalance portfolio growth objectives with prudent risk management outcomesCredit Operations & UnderwritingOversee day-to-day credit assessment activities and underwriting qualityProvide guidance and support to Credit Assessment Officers on complex applicationsConduct quality assurance reviews and identify opportunities for continuous improvementMonitor application volumes, approval rates, conversion rates, and turnaround timesEnsure lending decisions align with responsible lending obligations, internal policies, and regulatory requirementsLead and develop the Credit Assessment team,
ensuring high standards of credit quality, productivity, and customer outcomesAct as an escalation point and approval authority for complex, high-risk, or policy exception lending decisions within delegated limits.Portfolio Risk ManagementMonitor portfolio performance across key risk metrics including approvals, arrears, defaults, losses, recoveries, and portfolio trendsConduct portfolio analysis to identify emerging risks and opportunitiesDevelop and maintain portfolio reporting, dashboards, and performance insightsRecommend risk mitigation strategies and portfolio optimisation initiativesSupport forecasting, provisioning, and portfolio performance reviewsMonitor portfolio performance by merchant, channel, customer segment, and product type to identify emerging risks and trendsFraud, Collections & HardshipOversee fraud prevention and detection controls across the lending lifecycleMonitor fraud trends, suspicious activity, and emerging financial crime risksSupport collections and hardship strategies to improve portfolio performance and customer outcomesWork closely with Collections and Customer Operations teams to manage arrears and recovery performanceEnsure customer treatment remains fair, compliant, and consistent with regulatory expectationsSupport AML/CTF controls and customer due diligence processes across the lending lifecycleGovernance & Stakeholder ManagementPrepare regular credit and portfolio risk reporting for managementSupport governance forums, audits, compliance reviews, and regulatory requestsMaintain risk registers, action plans, and monitoring activities relevant to the credit functionSupport ongoing compliance with NCCP obligations,
ASIC regulatory guidance, Privacy requirements, AML/CTF obligations, and internal policiesSupport merchant onboarding, due diligence, periodic reviews, and ongoing monitoring activitiesMonitor merchant compliance with policies, responsible lending expectations, and regulatory obligationsIdentify and escalation merchant conduct, compliance, fraud, or operational risksSupport the maintenance and continuous improvement of risk and compliance frameworks, policies, and proceduresWork closely with Product, Operations, Sales, and Compliance teams to support business objectivesContribute to a strong risk and compliance culture across the organisationAbout You7+ years' experience in consumer lending, credit risk, underwriting, or portfolio managementExperience within unsecured consumer lending, retail finance, fintech, or non-bank lending environmentsStrong understanding of responsible lending obligations, NCCP requirements, and credit risk management principlesExperience with automated credit decisioning systems, scorecards, and lending platformsStrong analytical capability with experience interpreting portfolio and customer performance dataSound understanding of fraud prevention, collections, and hardship management practicesExperience across both credit risk and compliance functions within consumer lending, fintech, or financial services environmentsWorking knowledge of NCCP, RG209, RG271, AML/CTF, Privacy and consumer lending regulatory requirementsExperience supporting merchant or third-party distribution models highly regardedExcellent stakeholder management and communication skillsRelevant degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Mathematics, or a related discipline preferredWhat you will get in return?
