The Parent Pathways Program is a free pre-employment program that helps parents and guardians of young children to build skills and confidence and prepare for the workforce.Starting a family is a special and rewarding time, but a lot of parents find themselves in a position at one point or another needing to get back into the workforce, whether it be for financial reasons, or to step into a recent career to find professional independence again.The program aims to address any challenges or concerns within the parent's immediate family to enable them to focus on the future and identify areas of interest and set career goals.
Further support with building skills and gaining qualifications is also be provided.Services are tailored to meet parents' and carers needs and support them in overcoming personal barriers and become ready to find work or enter further education when the time is right.We have a full-time ongoing role based across our Lakemba and Marrickville locations.How will a Parent Mentor assist parents through servicing of this program?
Person-centred case management for eligible parents with young childrenAddress vocational and non-vocational needsSupporting parents' aspirations through tailored expertise and referring parents to internal and external services for further support where requiredEngage with community organisations to develop strong opportunitiesProvide a calm, respectful,
welcoming, and child friendly service to maintain engagementPractice an empathetic approach towards parents and their circumstances to help build trusted relationships to achieve positive outcomes.What skills and experience do Parent Mentors need possess to support Parents back into the workforce?
Excellent communication skillsEmpathy and trauma awarenessAbility to effectively work with a culturally diverse range of Parents, employers, education and community service providers, and staffExcellent writing skills to write resumes, cover letters, assessments, referrals and case notesStrong Labour Market knowledgeA minimum Certificate III in a relevant field (including Social Work, Community Services, Education, Early Childhood Education and Care, Health or Society and Culture) or Certificate IV in Employment Services or Career Development or demonstrated equivalent experience and willing to work towards a relevant Certificate III or IV qualification.Application ProcessIf you progress through our screening process, there are a few other requirements which we'll need for you to obtain as follows:Working with Children Check (for relevant State of Operation)National Police ClearanceWorking Rights CheckWorkskil Australia is an inclusive, equal opportunity employer and we particularly welcome applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, applicants from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and applicants who have a disability.
