This is a senior leadership position designed to bring deep analytical rigour, technical authority, and mentorship into a growing team, working end-to-end on complex, precision-critical hardware.What you'll doAct as technical authority for mechanical design across the team, reviewing and guiding others' workOwn mechanical design end-to-end, from first concept through analysis, build, and commissioningWork hands-on across precision mechanical systems, including structural, thermal, and vibration analysisLiaise directly with manufacturers and be involved in the full delivery lifecycleProvide technical mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers, building their confidence and analytical capabilityBring rigour to design and analysis processes,



reinforcing positive engineering practice across the wider teamWhat we're looking for12+ years' experience as a Mechanical Engineer, including technical leadership or mentoring of engineering teamsStrong analytical foundation, comfortable with tolerancing, structural/thermal/vibration analysis as a natural part of design, not an afterthoughtBackground in precision mechanics, robotics, or mechatronicsProficiency with SolidWorks and FEA tools (ANSYS or equivalent)Australian citizenship requiredHighly regardedExperience in optomechanical design, mounting or housing optical elements (lenses, mirrors, laser systems)Exposure to compositesFamiliarity with specialised FEA-to-optical design workflowsSigFit experience is highly desirableCPEng or eligibility for Chartered statusWhat's on offerExcellent remuneration dependent on experienceFull-time on-site role in CanberraRelocation package where requiredSecurity clearance not required upfront, sponsored post-start if neededGenuine technical leadership scope and mentorship in a small, tight-knit team
