Based primarily at Calvary St John's Hospital, with weekend coverage at Calvary Lenah Valley Hospital, the SMO provides onsite and on-call medical care across both hospital sites while supporting the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care.Working closely with Visiting Medical Officers (VMOs), nursing teams and multidisciplinary clinicians, the SMO plays a key role in the management of medical inpatients, emergency responses and clinical governance activities.
The position also provides leadership and support to the Hospital Medical Officer (HMO) workforce, including recruitment, roster management, performance reviews and ongoing professional development.Key ResponsibilitiesProviding medical care and clinical support across inpatient and outpatient servicesResponding to Medical Emergency Team (MET) calls, Code Blue activations and other emergency responsesAssisting VMOs with ward rounds, treatment planning and patient managementManaging HMO recruitment, rostering, leave approvals and performance reviewsSupporting workforce planning and engagement of agency medical staff where requiredParticipating in the Medication Safety Committee and Antimicrobial Stewardship CommitteeContributing to the delivery of secure,
