Operating across the municipalities of West Wimmera, Hindmarsh, Yarriambiack, Buloke, Horsham, Northern Grampians and Glenelg, the organisation plays a critical role in supporting communities through reliable, safe and efficient service delivery.
With a strong reputation built on operational excellence and customer service, Wimmera Mallee Waste Management is currently seeking an experienced and commercially minded General Manager to lead operational performance, profitability, customer service and future growth.The OpportunityReporting directly to the Managing Director, the General Manager will lead all operational, commercial and people functions across the organisation's network of depots in Horsham, Wycheproof, Stawell and Portland.
This is a hands-on leadership role that combines strategic oversight with operational execution.
You will be responsible for managing customer relationships, overseeing fleet and asset performance, driving efficiency across collection routes, maintaining strong financial performance and leading a safety-focused workforce.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead operations across a multi-site regional business
Optimise collection routes, fleet utilisation and operational resources
Manage budgets,



costs and overall business profitability
Oversee the lifecycle and performance of fleet and operational assets
Build strong relationships with customers and key stakeholders
Lead workforce planning, recruitment and team performance
Champion a culture of safety, accountability and continuous improvement
Identify opportunities to improve revenue, productivity and cost efficiency
Contribute to strategic planning and business growth initiatives
The Ideal Person
You are a capable operational leader with a strong commercial mindset and a proven ability to lead people, assets and business performance outcomes.
You are equally comfortable reviewing financial reports, evaluating capital investment decisions and engaging with frontline operations to identify opportunities for improvement.
You will bring:
Demonstrated experience in a senior operational leadership, General Manager or business management role
Strong commercial and financial acumen, including budgeting, cost control and profit and loss accountability
Experience managing fleets, physical assets and service delivery operations
A practical understanding of regional operations, local customer relationships and geographically dispersed teams will be highly valued




Proven success leading, developing and retaining high-performing teams
Solid stakeholder management skills with the ability to build trusted customer relationships
Experience implementing operational improvements that enhance productivity, safety and service outcomes
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
A demonstrated commitment to Occupational Health and Safety
Relevant qualifications in management, business, operations or a related field will be well regarded but are not essential
Experience within waste management, transport, logistics, civil services, infrastructure, utilities or other asset-intensive operational environments will be highly regarded.
Beyond technical capability, you will bring sound judgement, resilience and a genuine commitment to leading a safe, productive and customer-focused organisation.
This role will suit someone who is comfortable moving between the boardroom, depot, workshop and frontline operations.
