We're partnering with a well-established general insurer to appoint a Legal Counsel into their Melbourne-based in‐house team.

This is a broad, hands‐on role working closely with a highly regarded Head of Legal & Company Secretary, supporting legal advisory across the business while playing a key role in regulatory, commercial and governance matters.

Main focus areas
n
n
Provide pragmatic legal advice to senior stakeholders across the business
n
Support AFS licensing obligations and broader financial services regulatory compliance
n
Draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts with third parties and suppliers
n
Advise on Corporations Act, insurance legislation and Australian Consumer Law
n
Liaise with regulators including APRA, ASIC and AFCA
n
Support legal aspects of projects, submissions and business initiatives
n
Work closely with Risk & Governance on cross‐functional matters
n
Drive continuous improvement across legal processes, workflows and knowledge management
n

The ideal candidate
n
n
Australian qualified lawyer with an unrestricted practising certificate
n
2 - 5 PQE (flexible) across financial services, insurance or
corporate/commercial
law
n
Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks (AFSL, Corporations Act, insurance)
n
Ability to translate technical legal advice into clear, commercial outcomes
n
Confident stakeholder manager with solid communication skills
n
Comfortable working autonomously in a lean, collaborative team
n
