The Opportunity

A unique opportunity is available for a Consultant General Surgeon to join a major tertiary service in the Northern Territory on a 12-month full-time contract.
n
Based across Royal Darwin Hospital and Palmerston Regional Hospital, you will deliver high-quality surgical care across a vast and diverse catchment — including remote and regional communities.
n

The Role
n
As a Specialist General Surgeon, you will:
n
n
Provide comprehensive general surgical services to inpatients and ambulatory patients
n
Manage patient flow, including inpatient ward rounds and outpatient clinics
n
Participate in a 24/7 on-call roster, including emergency surgery
n
Deliver specialist advice to clinicians across the Northern Territory, including remote and isolated centres
n
Contribute to multidisciplinary care and referral pathways
n
Engage in teaching, mentoring, and supervision of junior medical staff
n
Participate in clinical governance, audit, and continuous career development
n

Requirements

Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) or equivalent
n
Eligibility for Specialist Registration with AHPRA
n
Experience as a Consultant General Surgeon
n
Commitment to rural, regional, and Indigenous health
n
n
IMGs encouraged to apply, including:

UK / Ireland trained surgeons (CCT)
