The Role
Gwynne Park PS is seeking a committed and culturally knowledgeable Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer (AIEO) to support the wellbeing, engagement and achievement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
The AIEO plays a key role in building a culturally responsive and safe school environment.
Working in partnership with staff, families and the community, the AIEO will support the design and implementation of culturally responsive practices, provide cultural advice to staff, and promote understanding of Aboriginal cultures, languages and protocols across the school.
The role includes developing solid, respectful relationships with students and families, acting as a liaison between home and school, and providing mentoring and pastoral care to support student attendance, engagement and success.
The AIEO would also contribute to the development and monitoring of student plans and supports staff to embed culturally responsive approaches into teaching and learning programs.
