Overview

Two appointments for Principal Policy and Project Officers to join the Biosecurity Division of the Department of Primary Industries and Regions (PIRSA). Role is ASO7 classification and focuses on lead policy development, shaping legislation, stakeholder engagement, consultation and strategic analysis to support the Biosecurity Act Implementation Team and related departmental initiatives.

Responsibilities

Lead policy development and shape legislation through expert advice, stakeholder engagement, consultation and strategic analysis.
n
Provide transparent, compelling documentation including discussion papers, policy positions and draft regulations.
n
Engage with key stakeholder groups across government and broader industry.
n
Translate technical insights into actionable policy and oversee Program Delivery Officers where applicable.
n
Contribute to wider departmental initiatives and ensure alignment with government processes and biosecurity frameworks.

Qualifications and Skills
n
n
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to critically assess complex biosecurity systems and legislation.
n
Ability to identify gaps, inconsistencies and opportunities for reform; interpret trends,



risks and emerging issues.
n
High-level verbal communication skills to distill complex policy and legislative concepts into clear advice and documentation.
n
Experience engaging with diverse stakeholders across government and industry.
n
Leadership capabilities in providing oversight to Program Delivery Officers.
