Financial Accountant – Finance Function Modernisation

Hybrid – 5 Queens Road, Melbourne (3 days office / 2 days WFH)

4 or 5 days per week considered

Indicative salary equivalent: $95,000 – $110,000 (pro-rata)

ASN Events delivers major scientific and academic conferences across Australia. We operate across multiple entities with project-based accounting, complex GST treatment and payroll obligations.
n
We are currently undertaking a structured finance function modernisation, including the transition of our accounting systems to Xero in partnership with an implementation consultant.
n
As part of this transformation, we are seeking a technically strong Financial Accountant to join us on a 4-6 month contract to strengthen compliance integrity, improve controls and support the successful system migration.
n
This is not a transactional AP/AR role. This is about ownership, compliance discipline and contributing to long-term structural improvement.
n
The Opportunity
n
You will play a key role in ensuring statutory compliance remains robust during system transition, while also helping lift internal controls and reporting standards.
n
You will:
n
n
Take ownership of BAS, IAS and GST reporting across multiple entities
n
Review and ensure correct GST treatment across sponsorship, registration and international revenue streams
n
Oversee PAYG withholding, superannuation and payroll tax compliance
n
Support month-end integrity and general ledger accuracy
n




Assist with FBT and ASIC regulatory requirements
n
Work alongside Moore Australia during the Xero transition to ensure clean data migration and accurate setup
n
Identify process improvements and strengthen documentation and controls
n
Liaise confidently with external advisors and senior leadership
n
n
This role suits someone comfortable operating in a changing environment who can maintain compliance stability while systems evolve.

What We're Looking For
n
n
5+ years' experience in Financial Accounting with strong compliance exposure
n
Demonstrated experience preparing and reviewing BAS, GST and PAYG obligations
n
Solid understanding of payroll compliance and payroll tax
n
Experience participating in accounting system migrations (desirable)
n
Experience working across multiple entities or project-based environments
n
Strong reconciliation discipline and high attention to detail
n
Confidence dealing with advisors and senior stakeholders
n
