The Role
n
We are seeking an experienced Journalist to cover and report on breaking news about crime, law enforcement, and justice. Joining our very busy Victorian news team, you will draw on a range of sources within police departments, emergency services and the court system to break stories and deliver accurate, high quality and engaging content across all ABC News platforms.

The Job
n
n
Generate exclusive Victorian stories utilising a wide network of contacts, trusted sources and research.
n
Rapidly report on crime scenes, accidents, and unfolding emergencies.
n
Maintain a network of contacts within police departments, emergency services, and the court system.
n
Write concise and accurate copy, using creative storytelling techniques with advanced production skills.
n
Work collaboratively with newsroom leaders and staff, sharing experience and knowledge across the wider Victorian News team.
n
Take direction and offer guidance and leadership; exhibit high-level communication skills.
n
Good time management and coordination of colleagues in production situations when required.
n

About You
n
n
You have experience in racing to the scene of a crime to cover breaking news, as well as using your robust network of contacts to confirm tip offs, follow leads and deliver exclusive stories.

Demonstrated ability to break exclusive stories that have state‐wide impact and hold all levels of government to account.
n
Excellent time management and writing skills with the ability to deliver clear, concise copy.
n
