McArthur is partnering with a Western Sydney council to appoint an experienced Fleet Safety Officer for a full-time temporary assignment.
n
Based in Western Sydney, this is a specialist operational safety position supporting fleet assets, heavy vehicles, mobile plant, workshops, maintenance activities and associated field operations.
n
The successful candidate will provide practical and technical WHS advice throughout the complete fleet asset lifecycle, including vehicle specification, procurement, commissioning, operation, maintenance, modification, contractor management, decommissioning and disposal.
n
The opportunity
n
This role will be responsible for strengthening the Council's fleet safety systems and ensuring WHS considerations are embedded into operational and asset-management decisions.
n
You will work closely with fleet management, workshop personnel, mechanics, drivers, plant operators, procurement teams, contractors and the broader corporate WHS function.
n
A major focus of the position will be developing practical, task-specific safety documentation that can be effectively implemented by frontline operational employees.
n
Key responsibilities
n
Your responsibilities will include:
n
n
Providing specialist WHS advice across fleet, workshop and maintenance operations.
n
Developing and maintaining SWMS, Safe Work Procedures, JSAs and task-based risk assessments.
n
Local government operations.
n
Establishing a structured fleet safety management and documentation framework.
n
Conducting operational,
plant and equipment risk assessments.
n
Supporting safety-in-design reviews for new vehicles, plant and equipment.
n
Coordinating safety assurance and commissioning processes for new fleet assets.
n
Reviewing workshop traffic management, vehicle movements and pedestrian interaction risks.
n
Supporting the safe operation and maintenance of heavy vehicles and mobile plant.
n
Developing critical risk controls for high-risk fleet and workshop activities.
n
Supporting Chain of Responsibility and heavy vehicle safety obligations.
n
Conducting workplace inspections, safety assurance activities and critical-control verification.
n
Participating in and leading incident investigations.
n
Monitoring corrective actions through to completion.
n
Reviewing contractor SWMS, risk assessments, licences and competency requirements.
n
Facilitating toolbox talks, consultation sessions and operational risk workshops.
n
Supporting training and competency requirements for safety-critical activities.
n
Preparing clear reports, safety documentation, procedures and management recommendations.
n
n
About you
n
To be successful, you will possess:
n
n
Tertiary qualifications in Work Health and Safety, occupational health and safety, risk management or a related discipline.
n
Demonstrated WHS experience within a complex operational or high-risk environment.
n
Practical experience involving fleet, heavy vehicles, mobile plant, workshops, engineering, maintenance, transport,
waste operations or construction.
n
Strong experience developing SWMS, Safe Work Procedures, JSAs and risk assessments.
n
Experience conducting operational risk assessments and incident investigations.
n
Strong knowledge of hazard identification and the hierarchy of controls.
n
The ability to engage effectively with frontline operational employees.
n
Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
n
The ability to translate legislation and technical requirements into practical operational controls.
n
Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.
n
n
Highly regarded
n
Experience in any of the following areas will be advantageous:
n
n
Heavy vehicle fleet operations.
n
Automotive or mechanical workshops.
n
Mobile plant and specialist municipal vehicles.
n
Waste collection vehicles or compaction equipment.
n
Fleet asset management and vehicle procurement.
n
Safety-in-design.
n
Chain of Responsibility.
n
Electric vehicles or high-voltage vehicle systems.
n
Contractor safety management.
n
ISO ***** safety management systems.
n
ICAM or equivalent investigation methodologies.
n
Mechanical, automotive, electrical, engineering or technical trades.
n
Contract period: August **** to February **** (start date dependent on completion of compliance documents).
n
Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday.
n
Work arrangement: Predominantly depot and operational-site based.
n
Dress requirements: High-visibility vest, long-sleeved shirt, long work pants and safety footwear.
n
Rate: $74 per hour plus Super.
n
