About the Role

A large insurance group is seeking a Senior Business Analyst to join a squad responsible for maintaining, enhancing, and modernising a mainframe-based policy administration system, a business‐critical platform supporting policy servicing, billing, payments, renewals, product changes, regulatory compliance and core operational processes.
n
This is a business-facing role, working directly with the Product Owner. You'll need enough fluency in the underlying COBOL/mainframe landscape to bridge conversations between business stakeholders and engineering teams – this isn't a technical BA role, but you need to be comfortable enough in that world to ask the right questions and translate confidently both ways.

Key Responsibilities

Lead end-to-end requirements analysis for complex system integrations, data migrations and platform consolidations, including new and migrated retail life products, riders and pricing
n
Partner with business and technology teams to design AI-enabled and automated solutions that are secure, compliant and customer-centric
n
Use JIRA, Confluence and AI tools to document user stories, functional specifications, system rules, product configurations, data mappings, process diagrams and acceptance criteria
n
Conduct impact assessments across core and dependent systems (mainframe, APIs, customer-facing, automated and AI systems)
n
Facilitate requirement refinement sessions, walkthroughs and agile ceremonies as required
n




Ensure alignment across product, capital, engineering and business operations stakeholders
n
Guide testers on test scenarios, support UAT, release readiness activities and post-release checks
n
Provide specialist system expertise to business operations, production support and incident/root cause investigations when required
n
Maintain high-quality documentation throughout the delivery lifecycle, ensuring traceability from requirements through to delivery

What You'll Bring
n
n
5+ years' experience in Australia as a Senior Business Analyst within the Life Insurance industry
n
Solid Life Insurance domain knowledge, product configurations and enhancements, new business, underwriting, claims, policy services, pricing, billing, commission, financial reporting etc.
n
Mainframe-based policy admin system experience is a strong plus
n
Proven experience delivering large-scale initiatives, particularly data migration and system integration
n
Comfort working alongside legacy/COBOL systems and translating between business and engineering teams
n
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for automation and transformation opportunities
n
Proven ability to deliver high-quality requirements artefacts — user stories, functional specs, transparent acceptance criteria
n
Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication and facilitation skills across business and technical teams
