Job Description
Recovery Coach
n
Recovery coaching is a specific NDIS support designed for participants with psychosocial disability. As a recovery coach, your job is to help participants build the skills and confidence to manage their own supports, engage with their community, and work toward goals that matter to them.

Responsibilities
n
n
Meet participants to review how their current supports are working.
n
Help prepare for plan reviews and support participants in making contact with services they have been reluctant to approach.
n
Work through crisis plans with participants as needed.
n
Write progress notes and contribute to NDIS reporting.
n
Maintain consistent attendance, listen without judgment, and focus on the participant's own goals.
n

Pay & Working Arrangements
n
Pay for NDIS recovery coaches is typically based on the NDIS Price Guide, with rates varying by time of day, day of week, and employment arrangement.
n
n
Weekday: $38 to $53 an hour
n
Saturday: $57 to $80 an hour
n
Sunday: $76 to $107 an hour
n
Public holiday: $95 to $133 an hour
n
Casual employees receive a 25% loading on top of these rates.
n

Required Qualifications
n
n
Strong understanding of recovery‐oriented practice and psychosocial disability.
n
Lived experience of mental health challenges,
or significant experience supporting people with psychosocial disability.
n
Certificate IV in Mental Health, Mental Health Peer Work, or a related community services qualification.
n
Ability to build trusting relationships and maintain appropriate qualified boundaries.
n
Knowledge of NDIS funding, plan types, and participant rights.
n
Strong written communication skills for progress notes and NDIS reporting.
n
Reliable vehicle and current driver's licence.
n
Ability to work autonomously and manage a caseload.
n

Checks and Credentials
n
n
Police Check: varies by state, $110 to $160, valid 5 years, 4 to 8 weeks to process.
n
NDIS Worker Screening Check: $50 to $80, valid 3 years (renewed by employers), often issued within days.
n
Appropriate training courses: $1,500 to $3,000 (subsidised places available), 6 to 12 months.
n
CPR certification: $90 to $160, 1‐day course, valid 3 years (refresh CPR every 12 months).
n
First Aid certification: Free to $150 (often provided by employer), half‐day to 1‐day course, refreshed annually.
n
Driver's licence and reliable vehicle: recommended.
n
Licence renewal: varies, $30 to $100 per year, ongoing and must remain current.
