About the Role
n
n
Identify industry policy issues in consultation with key stakeholders including State and Commonwealth Governments, regulators, industry and professional associations.
n
Oversee development of and prepare policy submissions and advocate to government representatives in support of commercial objectives.
n
Contribute to the design and development of strategic policy initiatives through interpreting and advising on relevant indicators, trends and drivers.
n
Build consensus across the organisation for proactive reform as opposed to reactive responses to ongoing government intervention.
n
Balance objectives of economic and social policy and commercial imperatives of developing industry strategies.
n
Maintain awareness of international developments in areas such as regulation of the financial services industry, political and regional developments, globalisation, world economic and social trends.
n
n
Think strategically about building support for organisation and industry goals across the economy, including with government departments, industry associations and representatives, and other groups as appropriate.
n
n
The successful candidate will have a tertiary qualification or equivalent in a suitable discipline – legal, financial, management or political science.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 8 years' leadership experience in policy development, in the prudential, financial regulation and/or similar fields. In addition, the individual should also possess the following competencies:
n
Experience and high-level skills that are effective in advocating, negotiating and influencing senior government representatives.
n
Extensive demonstrated knowledge and experience in the proactive research, development, formulation and analysis of public policy,
n
Track record and proven ability to research and analyse issues and trends and to contribute to the formulation of strategic policies and initiatives from an economic viewpoint.
n
Demonstrated track record to think strategically, develop creative solutions and influence and negotiate with stakeholders to gain support for policies and initiatives.
n
Demonstrated high level consultation, presentation, written and oral communication skills, particularly effective writing skills.
n
Knowledge of industry regulatory mechanisms and relevant legislation and their implications.
n
n
High-level research, policy development and critical analysis skills. A capacity to quickly assess and understand complex insurance issues and concepts.
n
Capacity to independently source, analyse and report on empirical data.
n
Equally strategic and hands on, a strong focus on team and collaboration.
