Job Description
Semicon Machine Design Engineer
n
South Eveleigh, Sydney | Full time | Hybrid | $120k to $150k + 12% super + equity
n
Relocation and visa support available for the right person
n
The Mission
n
Design the machine that makes the breakthrough possible.
n
Syenta is building next-generation semiconductor manufacturing equipment using Localised Electrochemical Manufacturing, combining patterning and metallisation into a single tool.
n
This role is not field service.
n It's not maintenance.
n It's not process integration from the sidelines.
n
It's end-to-end machine design for semiconductor capital equipment, from concept through build, commissioning, FAT, SAT and stable production.
n
What You'll Work On
n
n
Own the full machine lifecycle from requirements capture to production handover
n
Lead mechanical and mechatronic design across structure, motion, metrology, controls, pneumatics, safety and cleanroom integration
n
Develop and own the machine design specification
n
Specify precision components including motion stages, sensors, actuators, frames, vibration isolation, enclosures, PLCs, HMIs and vision systems
n
Design for sub-micron placement or overlay accuracy under real-world force, thermal load, vibration and process disturbance
n
Make cleanroom-compatible decisions across materials, finishes, lubrication, outgassing, particle generation and contamination control
n
Produce complete documentation across drawings, schematics, BoMs, manuals and operator instructions
n
Coordinate internal fabrication, external vendors, system integration and commissioning
n
Walk tools through FAT, SAT and into secure operation
n
Work with process, yield, reliability and quality teams to hit throughput,
yield and uptime targets
n
Ensure machines comply with SEMI standards and relevant machine safety requirements
n
n
What Matters Here
n
n
8+ years designing and delivering semiconductor capital equipment or directly comparable high-precision tools
n
Personally led mechanical or mechatronic design of a production semicon tool or major subsystem
n
Proven experience designing machines that hold sub-micron placement or overlay accuracy
n
Experience dealing with force, thermal load, vibration, environmental factors or process disturbance
n
Cleanroom-compatible design experience, ideally ISO Class 3 or better
n
Deep understanding of particle generation, contamination control, fab integration and materials management
n
Strong familiarity with SEMI standards
n
Direct commissioning, FAT, SAT and production handover experience
n
Strong mechanical design capability across precision structures, kinematic mounting, mechanisms, pneumatics and tolerancing
n
Solid cross-disciplinary fluency across electrical, controls, safety, production, quality and maintenance
n
n
The Background That Fits
n
You may have designed equipment across:
n
n
Semiconductor capital equipment
n
Lithography platforms
n
Nanoimprint lithography
n
Inspection or metrology tools
n
Electroplating, sputtering or CMP equipment
n
Wafer, reticle or template handling systems
n
Die bonding or photomask manufacturing equipment
n
Photonics or optics equipment
n
Advanced microfluidics
n
MEMS production
n
Vacuum systems
n
E-beam toolsHigh-end medical imaging or scientific instrumentation
n
n
Nice to Have
n
n
SolidWorks, Inventor, CATIA or Fusion 360
n
EPLAN or AutoCAD Electrical
n
Beckhoff TwinCAT, Siemens TIA Portal or Allen-Bradley
n
Cognex, Keyence or equivalent vision systems
n
SISTEMA or equivalent machine safety tools
n
SolidWorks PDM, Vault or similar PDM/PLM tools
n
Experience with ASML, Canon, Nikon, KLA or comparable semicon equipment environments
n
n
Why This Role Is Different
n
Some engineers design machines.
n
Fewer have designed machines that need to hold sub-micron accuracy inside a cleanroom, survive real process conditions and then run reliably in production.
n
That's the bar here.
n
You'll own the machine, not just a module. The design, the build, the standards, the commissioning, the handover and the hard decisions in between.
n
The Opportunity
n
Syenta is taking a fundamentally different approach to semiconductor manufacturing.
n
Lower cost.
n Lower energy use.
n Lower emissions and waste.
n High-speed, high-resolution metallisation in a single tool.
n
You'll be joining early enough to shape the equipment platform, the engineering standards and the way these machines move from breakthrough science into production reality.
n
Apply Now
n
If you've designed complex semiconductor capital equipment, or something genuinely close to it, this is a rare chance to build the machine behind a new manufacturing category.
