Run your own P&L; in international freight. Established branch, loyal client base, direct line to the Board and a genuine mandate to grow it.
19th August, ****
We are partnering with a long-established, Australian-owned international freight forwarding and customs business to appoint a Commercial Branch Manager. This is a genuine general management role, not a caretaker one. You will take ownership of an established branch – its people, its P&L; and its client relationships – and be handed a clear mandate to grow it. You will report directly to the Board, and you will be the one setting the plan rather than executing someone else's. The branch already has the fundamentals: a stable, experienced team, a loyal customer base and the backing of a national network with global forwarding partners. What it needs now is a commercially sharp leader to sharpen the sales engine, tighten the operational discipline and take the next step in market share. What you'll be responsible for Growth and strategy
Growth and strategy
Building and executing a three-year branch growth plan aligned to Group strategy - identifying the trade lanes, verticals and revenue streams worth chasing
Setting and owning measurable sales, margin and customer growth targets
Sales and business development
Leading the branch's sales program to win and retain high-value clients
Personally holding key account, overseas partner and supplier relationships
Running a disciplined pipeline review process with monthly forecasting accuracy
People and culture
Building a high-performing, sales-oriented branch culture where accountability is normal
Running weekly toolbox and performance meetings across safety, service and improvement
Conducting annual reviews and building tailored development plans that grow your bench
Operations, finance and governance
Managing branch performance against budget and KPIs, and acting early when numbers drift
Driving cost control, supplier efficiency and process improvement to protect margin
Owning debtor management, job ageing and loss-per-job performance
Supporting the operations team on escalated enquiries and commercial decisions
Ensuring compliance with Group policy, WHS, customs and technology standards
Reporting monthly to the Board on profitability, pipeline, new business, debtors and strategic initiatives, and preparing the annual budget and forecast
What you'll need
Proven leadership experience in international freight forwarding, customs brokerage or 3PL - ideally at Branch Manager, Operations Manager or senior commercial level
A track record of carrying and delivering a P&L; or revenue target
Solid working knowledge of air and sea freight, and exposure to customs compliance
Commercial instincts: you can read a set of numbers, spot the problem and act on it
Credible, hands-on people leadership - you build teams rather than inherit them
Confidence presenting to a Board or executive group
Excellent client-facing skills and a network you can bring to the table
What's on offer
An attractive base salary plus a performance-based incentive tied to results you control
Real autonomy - you run the branch, with direct access to decision-makers and no layers in between
The stability of an Australian-owned business with decades in the market and long-tenured staff
The backing of a national branch network and a global forwarding partner footprint
A clear pathway to broader responsibility for the right performer
Only candidates with the right to work in Australia will be considered.
