SAFETY MANAGER | FIFO PNG | UNDERGROUND MINING

An outstanding opportunity is available for an experienced Safety Manager to join a major underground mining operation in Papua New Guinea on a FIFO rotational roster. This role will suit a proven mining safety leader who thrives in complex operational environments and has solid experience across underground mining, high-risk activities, contractor management, and emergency response.

The Opportunity: Reporting directly into senior operational leadership, you will take full ownership of site-wide Health, Safety & Emergency Management systems across underground mining, processing operations, logistics corridors, camp infrastructure, and associated operational activities. This is a hands‐on leadership role requiring solid field presence, operational engagement, and the ability to drive a proactive "Zero Harm" culture across a remote mining environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and embed a strong site-wide safety culture
n
Oversee all HSE systems, compliance, and governance
n
Drive hazard identification, risk assessments, and critical control management
n
Lead incident investigations using ICAM or equivalent methodologies
n




Manage emergency response preparedness and crisis management systems
n
Conduct site inspections, audits, and compliance reviews
n
Mentor operational leaders and supervisors on safety accountability
n
Oversee contractor HSE performance and compliance
n
Deliver executive‐level HSE reporting and performance metrics
n
n
The Ideal Candidate:
n
n
Degree or Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Mining Engineering, or related discipline
n
Minimum 10+ years' experience within mining safety leadership roles
n
Proven underground mining experience is essential
n
Strong understanding of mining legislation, risk management, and safety systems
n
ICAM Investigation Certification highly regarded
n
ISO ***** Lead Auditor qualification advantageous
n
Strong leadership capability across multicultural and remote operational environments
n
Experience managing safety within high-risk mining operations
n
n
