Join The Salvation Army as a Support Worker and play an important role in creating a safe, respectful and supportive environment for people on their recovery journey.
Working within our participant-led model of care, you'll provide practical support, encouragement and connection to help participants build confidence, stability and independence.
Why this role matters The Salvation Army (Salvos) is one of Australia's largest providers of alcohol and other drug (AOD) programs including withdrawal management, residential and non-residential rehabilitation, and harm reduction programs.
Salvos services go beyond addressing the core issues and challenges associated with problematic substance abuse and provide participants a place of hope, compassion, and dignity to recover safely.
About the Role As a Support Worker, you'll be a welcoming and reliable presence for participants accessing our service.
You'll help create an environment where people feel safe, heard and respected, while supporting them to work towards their individual goals.
What You'll Do Provide a warm and responsive first point of contact for participants and respond appropriately to urgent needs.
Work alongside senior team members to identify, manage and prevent potential high-risk situations.
Facilitate daily programs and activities, including social activities, Spirit Lifter and information sessions.
Provide practical information, guidance and support based on individual participant needs.
Build positive, trusting relationships that encourage self-determination and active participation.
Support participants to implement their individual case plans in line with TSA's model of care.
Encourage participation in recovery goals and connect participants with appropriate services and community supports.
Contribute to activity risk assessments and communicate appropriate risk mitigation strategies to management.
Promote a safe, inclusive and respectful environment for all participants.
What You'll Bring We're looking for someone who is compassionate, reliable and genuinely committed to supporting people through their recovery journey.
You'll ideally have: A relevant Certificate-level qualification; or Relevant industry experience and/or on-the-job training; or A relevant Diploma-level qualification.
Current First Aid Certificate.
Current Driver's Licence.
Blue Card (Working with Children Check) – required for Mt Isa and Townsville roles.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
The ability to work collaboratively while also supporting participants to develop independence and self-determination.
