Michael Hill is a dual-listed (ASX/NZX) international jewellery retailer operating across Australia, New Zealand and Canada. We are looking for an experienced and commercially minded Senior Tax Accountant to join our dedicated Tax Team in Brisbane — a broad, high-ownership role with primary responsibility for multi-jurisdictional tax compliance, process improvement and cross-functional projects. This is not a standard compliance position; it suits a technically strong tax skilled with a solid accounting foundation who thrives on complexity and autonomy.

Take ownership of income tax provisions, instalments and lodgement of returns across all Federal, State and City obligations
n
Manage indirect/sales tax, employment benefit tax and other tax lodgements
n
Lead tax-related technology and process improvement projects
n
Own GL account reviews, reporting and variance analysis; partner with Performance & Analysis Team on tax-related budgets
n
Assist with the team's response to revenue authority audits and risk reviews, including liaison with external advisors
n
Assist with the development of tax policies and procedures and provide advice on tax implications across the Group
n

About you
n
n
5+ years' experience in multi-jurisdictional tax compliance and provisions — AU baseline; CA,



NZ or US exposure highly advantageous
n
Strong financial accounting capability including GL, journals, balance sheet reconciliations and deferred tax
n
Generalist tax technical knowledge across income tax, GST/PST, FBT and transfer pricing — breadth valued over narrow specialisation
n
Proven track record leading process improvement or automation initiatives in a finance or tax function
n
Advanced Excel and systems confidence — D365, CCH Tax Integrator and OneSource advantageous
n
Autonomous and organised — able to manage competing multi-jurisdictional deadlines with minimal supervision
n
CA, CPA, CTA or equivalent with an accounting degree; ESS/share trust experience desirable
n
