An prospect to take the lead on risk, compliance and governance across one of the Gold Coast’s most diverse hospitality, sporting and entertainment organisations.
Southport Sharks is looking for an experienced Risk & Compliance Manager to lead our organisation wide approach to risk, compliance, workplace health and safety, AML/CTF and governance.
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer and leading our Risk & Compliance Coordinator, this is a hands on senior role that works across our Club, Gaming, Food & Beverage, Hotel, Health Club, Football and corporate operations.
About the Role
This role is about more than maintaining registers and policies. You will work closely with our leaders to build a practical and proactive approach to risk and compliance that supports our operations while ensuring strong governance and accountability.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading and continuously improving our enterprise risk and compliance frameworks
- Maintaining oversight of organisational risks, compliance obligations, treatment plans and corrective actions
- Leading AML/CTF governance, AUSTRAC reporting, training and compliance assurance
- Leading our WHS governance framework, WHS Committee and organisational safety reporting
- Overseeing significant incident investigations, corrective actions and emerging risk trends
- Developing our compliance monitoring, audit and inspection program
- Maintaining governance of our Integrated Management System and controlled documentation
- Monitoring legislative and regulatory change and translating requirements into practical business actions
- Providing risk and compliance reporting and insights to Executive Leadership and the Board Risk Sub Committee
- Supporting regulator engagement, statutory reporting and external compliance reviews
- Coaching leaders to strengthen risk ownership and compliance capability across their operations
About You
You will be comfortable moving between governance and operations. One day you may be preparing an Executive or Board report and the next, partnering with the operational leaders to navigate emerging risks, lead incident response and drive practical solutions to complex compliance matters.
Ideally, you will bring:
- Experience in a senior risk, compliance, governance or WHS position
- Experience within hospitality, gaming, clubs or another highly regulated environment
- Strong knowledge of WHS legislation and regulatory requirements
- Knowledge of AML/CTF obligations and AUSTRAC reporting requirements
- Experience developing risk and compliance frameworks, registers and assurance programs
- Experience with audits, inspections, investigations and corrective action management
- Strong analytical, governance and report writing capability
- Confidence interpreting legislation and turning it into practical operational requirements
- Strong stakeholder skills with the confidence to provide advice, influence and constructive challenge
- A practical, organised and continuous improvement mindset
- Qualifications in WHS, Risk Management, Compliance, Governance or a related discipline will be highly regarded.
