Job Objective:
n
The Maintenance Fitter is responsible for the efficient and effective maintenance, breakdown repairs, testing and repairing of vehicles, plant and earthmoving machinery.
n
Job Tasks and Duties:
n
n
- Checks prepared metal components for accuracy, using measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers and rules;
n
- Lifts and hoists components on to working surface, lays out and marks reference points, and aligns parts using measuring instruments;
n
- Drills holes and taps threads for bolting parts together, and assembles parts and sub-assemblies;
n
- Verifies alignment of, and clearances between, components using measuring instruments;
n
- Cleans and lubricates assembled articles;
n
- Mark out stock to be shaped and formed into metal parts for other workers;
n
- Fit and assemble non-metallic parts;
n
- Test assemble articles in workshops to ensure accuracy of fit. Keep the workshop clean;
n
- Dismantle and remove engine assemblies if required, and transmissions, the steering mechanisms or other components, and check parts;
n
- Repair and/or replace worn or defective parts;
n
- Organize inspection and maintenance of machines and plant;
n
- Perform hydraulic repairs to plant and machinery;
n
- Maintain, repair and service light vehicles;
n
- Attend to vehicle breakdowns on civil construction sites to ensure prompt repairs of vehicles to minimise vehicle down-time;
n
- Arrange for transport of vehicles requiring maintenance and repairs;
n
- Welding of parts and assemblies;
n
- Relief machinery operation duties if required;
n
- Maintaining a safe and clean working workplace;
n
- Adhering to strict Occupational Health and Safety requirements;
n
