Luckies Stay & Play

Albion

Luckies is a considered wellness retreat for animals - not another boarding kennel, but a complete reimagining of what pet care can be. Think five-star hotel meets wellness retreat, purpose-built at Albion for up to 250 cats and dogs across both day care and overnight stays. Every guest has access to hydrotherapy, physio and a dedicated wellness room, grooming, three separate indoor play spaces, a movie room for calming downtime, and two outdoor areas including a pool.

We’re not building a commercial facility. We’re building a home away from home, somewhere pet parents can send their best friend on a genuine holiday, guilt-free, knowing they’re getting the highest level of care available anywhere in the market. Every detail is shaped with the companion in mind: light, space, texture, scent, atmosphere.

Enrichment sits at the heart of that promise. A stay at Luckies isn’t about waiting out the days in a pen, it’s a considered program of physical, mental and social enrichment, because genuine welfare depends on animals being stimulated, engaged and emotionally settled, not simply housed. Play, wellness, rest and connection are built into every day.

This is a true pre-opening opportunity. You’ll be the founding General Manager, building the team, the systems and the culture from day one, and setting the standard every future Luckies location will be measured against.

The Role

As General Manager, you’ll take full operational ownership of Luckies, from pre-opening setup through to the daily running of a large-scale, multi-service site. You’ll lead a diverse team across guest (pet) care, wellness services, grooming and front-of-house,

championing a culture of genuine care, quality and calm professionalism.

- Leading the pre-opening build-out: recruiting, training and onboarding a full team ahead of launch
- Setting and maintaining operational standards across accommodation, wellness services and guest experience
- Ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare, health and safety at all times
- Designing and running daily enrichment programs - physical, mental and social stimulation that keeps every guest happy, settled and thriving
- Managing day-to-day operations, rostering, budgets and P&L; for a large, multi-zone facility
- Driving bookings and occupancy, with a particular focus on midweek
- Building relationships with pet parents that reflect our promise of trust, transparency and premium care
- Establishing systems and processes that can scale to future Luckies locations
- Bringing a hospitality mindset to every interaction

About you

We’re genuinely open to General Managers from outside the pet industry. The skills that matter most here are leadership, standards and care - not necessarily where you’ve applied them before. You might come from:

- Hospitality - luxury hotels, resorts or premium guest-experience venues
- Childcare, early learning-centre,

or multi-site management, where duty of care and parent trust are everything
- Animal welfare or the pet industry - boarding, veterinary, grooming or wellness operations

Whatever your background, you’ll bring:

- Proven experience as a General Manager or senior operations leader in a service-based, care-focused environment
- A track record of leading and developing teams of 15+ people
- Strong commercial acumen - budgets, rostering, P&L; and operational efficiency
- Obsessive attention to standards, cleanliness and guest experience
- The ability to build something from the ground up - comfortable with a blank page, not just a playbook
- Calm, decisive judgement under pressure, including genuine welfare situations
- Availability and willingness to work across a 7-day operation - including weekends, public holidays and school holidays, our busiest and most important periods
- Warmth, professionalism and genuine care for the wellbeing of others (two legs or four)

Why Luckies

- Be the founding leader of a first-of-its-kind pet wellness brand, from the ground floor
- Work in a purpose-built, architecturally designed facility unlike anything in the market
- Genuine career growth as Luckies expands to recent locations
- A business built on quality, wellness and doing things properly - not cutting corners

The package

$150,000 - $170,000 + super, plus a performance bonus tied to occupancy, guest satisfaction and profit & loss performance. We’re willing to pay for the right person.

Ready to lead something genuinely new?
