About the Role
n
Reporting to the Payroll Manager, you will lead a team of 8 Payroll Officers and oversee the end-to-end processing of weekly and fortnightly payrolls for more than 15,000 employees and labour hire personnel.
n
You will be responsible for ensuring payroll accuracy, compliance, service excellence, and continuous improvement while building a positive, high-performing team culture.
n
Key Responsibilities
n
n
- Lead, coach, mentor and develop a team of 8 Payroll Officers.
n
- Manage team workloads and payroll schedules to ensure payrolls are processed accurately and on time.
n
- Oversee end-to-end payroll processing for 15,000+ employees across multiple business operations.
n
- Review and approve complex payroll transactions, including overpayments and adjustments.
n
- Act as the escalation point for complex payroll enquiries and issues.
n
- Ensure employee payroll records and documentation are maintained accurately and compliantly.
n
- Drive process improvements to enhance efficiency, compliance and service delivery.
n
- Support payroll system upgrades, testing, implementations and optimisation activities.
n
- Develop and maintain payroll procedures, documentation and work instructions.
n
- Contribute to recruitment, onboarding, training and performance management activities.
n
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and exceptional customer service.
n
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, SOX requirements and company policies.
n

About You
n
You are a hands-on payroll leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys supporting and developing others.
n
To succeed in this role, you'll bring:

- Proven experience leading or supervising a payroll team.
n
- Extensive end-to-end payroll experience within a high-volume environment.
n
- Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, compliance requirements and payroll best practice.
n
- Exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
n
- Experience managing payroll escalations and complex payroll matters.
n
- Strong stakeholder engagement and customer service skills.
n
- The ability to prioritise, organise and manage competing deadlines.
n
- A continuous improvement mindset and desire to drive efficiencies.
n
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.Experience leading payroll operations within a large, multi-site organisation.
